Apparently it's even difficult for 'experts' to tell how old a cockatiel is.

Young cockatiels have duller colours and shorter tail feathers, plus will be smaller in size and be growing bigger.
The cere (nose) will be pink during the first months and then begin to change into the grey-black colour (except in Lutinos and 'Albinos' where it stays pink).

Very old birds lose their shiny appearance in feathers and leg scales, they are slower, and often find it more difficult to balance on a perch.

Well if they are males they will have bright yellow colouring on side of head. That colour usually takes approx six months to show. After that you can tell age by condition of feet / beak etc... Best to show a bird breeder - they will give an accurate age.

The only way I know of, is by looking at its feet...birds under a year, don't look flaky...
If it has alot of flakes its over two years old...other than that, there is no way to tell...
I have one that is 22 years old...they really live a long time, if you take care of them right.

Yes, if you cut off their heads and count the rings. One ring represents the cycle of one season. Oh, wait......That's trees. Never mind.
