I have a 1 1/2 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who has the friendliest soul, he is excellent with other animals and would never hurt a fly!!!
I am going to get a puppy soon not sure what breed, probably another Cavalier or a Boxer, or maybe another pedigree puppy, this one will be a female, I was just wondering if they would get along and if so, would the puppy still want lots of attention from me or will he always be with my other dog?

cavaliers are such softys that i dont think you will have to worry about bullying. Make sure that your older dog has some safe place to escape to when he needs a brake that way he shouldn't get to stressed out. always make sure that both dogs have positive experiences with each other lots of praise and treats when they play nice!
The puppy will crave attention from you because you are the pack leader your the boss!! but having another dog will help because she will have someone to talk to while your not there!
give both dogs lots of exersice and stimulus and they should be very happy!

It's pretty tough to predict how two dogs will interact. Years ago, I had a golden retriever mix who was over 14 years old. I knew the end was coming soon for him, so, I went to a dog rescue organization and got a second dog. The second dog was a male as well, looked like a German Shepherd mix, they got along fabulously at the adoption center. I went twice just to make sure!
As soon as we got home, the puppy attacked the Golden even though the Golden out-weighed him by 50 lbs. Turned out that the puppy is an ALPHA personality. I have brought home other dogs since then and the puppy (who is now about 8 years old) always establishes his dominance. After he does that, everybody is ok.
I think it your second dog is a female, you will have a better chance of the two getting along. However, from personal experience, I can tell you that it might not be easy at first. You might have to keep them seperated, etc. I have two dogs now who still play-fight on a daily basis - sometimes they play-fight pretty rough. But they are inseperable. Best of luck to you.

I understand where you're coming from, because about a year ago a got a puppy and I already had an older dog. The pup seemed fine, but then took over the household. He pushed the older one around a bit & plays with my other dogs toys. They get along fine, but the dogs may compete a bit for attention and the "top rank" in the house. But have fun with your new dog. =] It's really not a big deal; a lot of the time they'll probably play together & get along grreat!

Which ever dog you get it is wise to study the breed & know exactly what breed you want before jumping in just because you want a puppy. Female must be spayed. There is no point in getting the male done & leaving the female as he will still be able to smell her scent & he will still go after her pestering her etc even though he cant do anything which will get annoying for your bit©h.
Any dog will get on but you have to introduce them properly, not just bring a puppy in the house & expect everything to be fine.
You must still give the older one the more attention until it gets used to the new puppy but you still must give the puppy the training & love you would have done with your older dog

They will probably get along, of course the old one will dominate the new one, but you must show affection to both of them, so that they are not jealous. The only problem may be if the old one dominates the new one too much, and the puppy decides to reciprocate when he gets old enough, so if it is a powerful dog i would be more worried for the old one in the long run. But if your dog is friendly with other dogs and puppies, not too dominant, there shouldn't be a problem. The fact that the new one will be famale helps too.

From what you say, I doubt it. It seems that the dog that you already have is very good-natured, which makes it less likely that he will become a bully. Puppies, on the other hand, being hyperactive little creatures and infinitely playful, are very prone to "bugging" older dogs--I have experienced it first hand whenever I introduce a puppy to my household.
Oh, and may I also suggest that you get a pound puppy--mutts have less behavioral problems than pure-breeds because they're not inbred. That, and puppy mills have a bad tendency of producing sick puppies.

If the social structure of your house is set up and maintained properly, both dogs will seek nothing other than to please you (their pack leader) but one of them will be dominate over the other...that's just the natural order of things, and there's nothing you can do to change it. It's not "bullying" although you may think it is...it's just the way things work. The structure is necessary for BOTH dogs to be happy and healthy.

could go either way
the older dog could 'adopt' the younger one or be incompetition with it.
if the younger one is adopted it will not need as much attn as it will if it is in competition with the older one.
since the older one is sweet, it probably won't be competitive. but there's really no telling
