Go into preferences and set the default paper size to A4.

It may be that you're only setting the size for the particular session of Word and it's not remembering it when you close it down and reopen it. If you go to the printer settings in the control panel and select the default paper size from there, it may remember it for next time. This would make it the default paper size for all programmes, not just Word.

Even If you have set your default paper size to A4 in Office's settings, one of MS Office's more charming features is that if you load a document saved with Letter paper size, it will not automatically reformat it. You will have to reformat it to A4 by going into the document menu and setting paper size to A4 - again.

This can be a little confusing.
Almost all Printers come with a Utility program that lets you set up the preferences that you use for default settings like paper size and black and white rather then color. This is normally done when you insert the disc that came with your printer.
However the reason the box shows up to give you choices is so you can make changes to your default settings, BUT THIS WILL ONLY WORK FOR ONE PRINTING.
The next job you print will revert back to the default settings you have set up.
