I have a CD I want to download to my harddrive but get "put disk in drive" reminder when it is in, and reinserting does nothing.

if you have 2 cd drives are you putting it in the right one.

Also is the disk a dvd not a cd ?

CD could be bad (scratched, etc) Drive could be bad, CD could have been created with a special software that you do not have on your system, CD may have been written with errors and your computer is not reading it, the drive may need cleaned, or even something as simple as a restart could fix the problem.

I have had an occasional problem just like this and when I reboot the computer it decides to read the disk just fine.

The CD-ROM might be broken.
