Cross sign on tomtom car navigation device?

my tomtom car navigation starts displaying a cross sign after trying to download updates. the cross sign is preventing me from using the device for its intended uses. please does anyone knows how i can resolve this to get my tomtom working again?

There is a little hidden reset button near the connectors. Press a blunt pin in to the hole. If that doesn't work press it while holding the power button. I hope you made a back-up you can restore if this fails. It is important to make sure the update process is finished before disconnecting from the PC.
