The best way to drop pounds is to do cardio. So, if all you can do is run in place, do that. If you have a stair stepper or something of the sort, that may keep you going better.

tightening your ab muscles - all the time, everywhere you go - while you are in the chair at your computer, while you drive your car, when you bend over - that will help probably more than anything else.
