I'm considering having gastric bypass surgery and would just like some feedback from people that have had it. I've gone to the consultations for all the info, now I'm just trying to get it approved through my insurance. Please share your experiences, good and bad. Thanks!

Ok, I guess I should elaborate. I've been on Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, low calorie, low carb, Slim Fast, South Beach...you name in. Each of these was always accompanied by exercise, usually 6 days a week. My Dr. agrees, the only thing that's going to work for me is surgery. I have tried eating a salad, grilled chicken, and steamed broccoli and green beans for dinner....Sounds great, right? Then about an hour later, I'm STARVING. If I have the surgery, it'll shrink the size of my stomach, therefore restricting the amount of food I eat, which is what I need. I'm just looking for people who have had it and what their experiences have been.

Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass surgery have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

I have not had the gastric bypass, or it's sister surgery the lap-band surgery.

I learned the hard way. At 14 I went on a self-directed fasting diet for 9 months. If my dad and his girlfriend weren't looking, I ate nothing. If we ate together, they made me eat salad. I lost 40 pounds. That lasted until I decided to go back to eating. A yogurt for lunch started putting the pounds back on. More came back on fairly soon, but the real problems started showing up 2 years later. I caught everything that was going around. My junior year of high school I was out a total of 3 months.

I continued on that way for another 10 years. By adulthood I had medical benefits, and my doctor put his foot down on dieting. I did a few more, better researched diets, but always with the same results: weight loss during the diet, but regaining of weight when I was off the diet. I hope you do so much better than I did, and follow your doctor's advice -no cheating!

When boredom, depression, or perhaps stress causes cravings, find a nonfood way to fulfill them such as taking a walk, calling a friend, going for a bath, reading a book, or maybe doing some yoga.
