As a reservist, its a hit and miss thing. Some Marines will be sent, some won't. Tell him to expect to go, but to not be disappointed if he doesn't. If he wants to go, he could volunteer. But many Marines, outside of Motor T, have a license to drive... so that field may not be in large demand. Most of our older Motor T guys have been deployed, and the newer ones haven't been.

The Commandant of the Marine Corps recently introduced a policy "Every Marine in the Fight". He intends to get every Marine to serve at least one tour, regardless of MOS. Especially as MT Operator, he will deploy and probably pretty quick.

Reserve troops are always being activated and sent into the fight.

Marines deploy, all Marines. I would count on your bf going to Iraq or some other warzone for one or more six mounth periods. Not right after his bootcamp but sometime after he got his first MOS and is designed to a unit. Semper Fi. Johan

If in the reserves, I don't think his chances are good that he will be activated, unless he were in the Army!

You have me confused though as he should not be sent anyplace after he completes training other than back to his reserve unit!

You don't have the slightest idea what is going to happen to him. There are approximately 150,000 troops over there and 3500 have been killed in action. Do the math.
