Does anyone else here find these eerie? I hate the whole "you're a daughter owned by your father, he hands you over to your husband then he owns you for life" thing. Why are the fanatics doing this, taking 9yr old girls to talk about sex with daddy (mom isn't important I guess?) then pledge themselves. They cry and worry about it...shouldn't they just be out being kids, riding bikes and kicking soccer balls around?

I refuse to be "owned" by ANY man--be he father or husband. Doesn't this take away basic human rights for females at some point?

And where are the "Purity Balls" for boys? Must they not be pure? Or is it only the daughters that are owned, how dare a boy be owned by his mother and be handed to ownership under his wife? How demeaning for us women, to have to be protected like we're fragile and owned like we're dogs.

It's fine for kids to have "the talk", though I never did. I just asked questions when I wanted to and got answers. I also have seeing those "abstinence" ads, I don't believe in getting married anyway so they don't apply. Most of these radicals don't tell their kids about protection and then turn them loose at 18--then the kids get STDs, AIDS, and pregnant and wonder why. My mom was always truthful and told me just to use protection. I've had one partner, never got a disease or pregnant.

I definitely think parents should talk to their kids about sex so they don't learn everything from their friends or TV. However I absolutely despise the 'Promise Ring' or Abstinance Pledge they make these brainwashed kids do. Not only is it creepy, (fathers and daughters making a pledge together?!?) but I heard that over 80% of the kids don't follow through with their promise, and for the majority of those kids, they never were taugh about protection (just abstinance) so when they do have pre-marital sex, it's dangerous because they're exposed to STDs, HIV, and pregnancy.

I don't know about purity balls but 9 is probably about the right time for parents to talk to their kids about sex and puberty. Dads shouldn't be completely left out of the conversation. Daughters shouldn't feel uncomfortable about asking their dads questions about sex. It would probably give them more confidence in how they deal with their future intimate partners.

Haven't heard of that. But I believe human should be treated equally. No gender discrimination or others.
