Watch the FoodNetwork programs. Once your parents see you really have an interest in cooking, they will probably let you try it at home. One program on the FoodNetwork you may really enjoy is "Good Eats!" The host is funny and very knowledgeable.
My nephew who is now 29, started learning to cook at four, which his mother and I also did. He got even more help from his aunt on his dad's side of the family who teaches cooking at a local university. By the time he was 13, he was bringing in groups of friends to teach them a few recipes because, "...you don't want to be bachelors with your own apartments and you can only open a can of soup and a can of beans and heat them up, do you?"

Help out in the kitchen when your parents are cooking. Not just looking...but washing the veggies...cutting the meat etc. Show responsibility by cleaning up after dinner and making sure that the appliances are clean and turned off. I believe that your parents are just hesitant because you have not shown them that you can be responsible in the kitchen. This will show your parents that you're generally interested and not just trying to be "iron chef". This can be great family time..and you may never know...hopefully you will learn some family recipes and become the next Food Network Star!

Watch a cooking channel. That helps a lot - or - since you are on the internet now - you have access to it - look up some websites.
Just because they are girls - don't think they know how to cook automatically.
Pay attention and listen carefully to your teacher - pay attention to the recipe - and breathe. This way you can take a lot of the load off.
Good luck.

Just to let you know, not only girls can cook. Real men can cook too. Just try and make some things, a lot of things won't work, and a lot of things will work out well.

I think a easy one is jello with fruit in it. Its all on the box how to make the jello ( heat water to boil add jello mix -then cold water) add fruit now or after a half hour of refigeration. you add banana's or strawberries.
Another good one is brownies. Its all on the box of what to add (oil, water and a few eggs) then you can add walnuts, or pecans then bake. There's also cookies if you are baking . Its right on the lid of oatmeal to make oatmeal cookies and you can add raisens to make it even better. You can also get a chunk of chocolate put in a pan- have another pan thats bigger half filled with water. place the smaller pan with the chocolate in it and place that pan in the bigger pan of water. make sure water does not go to high and spill over. then boil. it will melt the chocolate slowly so it will not burn. stir alot. on a cookie cheet have nuts spread out. then pour over walnuts, pecans, or almonds. its sets up pretty fast. The chocolate needs to be a brick of chocolate not just a candy bar. Another really good one is very simple. Its 1 container of rasberry yogurt and 1 16 oz. container of cool whip- mix together and dip in strawberries or other fruit. Great fruit dip! hope this helps!

foodnetwork.com has alot of information on there. not just recipes. like what goes with what and how to do what. trial and error though. the parents not letting you though sucks. so just go sit in the kitchen the next time they cook and just watch. its how i learned a lot of what i do know. ask to help. and if something screws up in the class with the girl have fun with it. admit you dont know what the hell your doing and play it off. have fun with it. its food not national security. actually just do like bush with national security!!

find a yummy-sounding recipe. follow it. the only thing you really need to remember if you have a recipe is READ THROUGH IT FIRST. don't just start mixing things together. see what you need. buy that stuff. measure it out ahead of time if you want. READ THE RECIPE ALL THE WAY THROUGH BEFORE STARTING. preheat your oven.
