It's not anywhere near Beverly Hills. As the name suggests, it is in Hollywood. My dad used to work in an area in Hollywood, and when I went to work with him sometimes, I would see it. But when I went with my mom to visit Rodeo Drive (in Beverly Hills), you couldn't see the Hollywood sign at all.

Specifically: The sign is located on the southern side of Mount Lee in Griffith Park, north of the Mulholland Highway. A good viewpoint within 90 m (100 yd) of the sign can be reached by driving north up Gower Street from Hollywood Boulevard and then north along Beachwood Drive.

Doug, the sign is in the City of Los Angeles, in the area known as Hollywood. It is on kinda the southern face of Mt. Lee between the 101 and 5 above the Hollywood Reservoir.
It is visible from a variety of locations. You can no longer drive up to it as the road is closed and the sign is surrounded by a big fence...You can probably get some pics of it from various locations on Hollywood Blvd...or within Griffith Park..

YOu can easily see it from the Universal Studios Lot(s) which also overlooks the Warner Bros. Lot(s). But in which city? I just assumed Hollywood.
