I'm starting to worry. He's been to a couple of doctors. His bloodwork is normal (a couple hormones were officially low at the start of this but they put him on drugs to get them back into the normal range and nothing changed) - sugars normal, kidney and liver function look fine. Iron is okay. Sleep is fine; they even stuck little electrodes to his head to make sure. He doesn't think he's depressed. They scanned his brain to make sure there were no tumors squishing things. A doctor even gave him some drugs that are normally for people with ADD to perk him up in the morning, but that did nothing at all. We're running out of ideas. What haven't we thought of?

Giving him stimulants was irresponsible in my opinion. Chronic fatigue is what they call it when nothing else, including epstein barr virus, is found. Eliminate trans fats from his diet immediately, then go to enterolab.com and order a stool test for gluten antibodies, he could have silent celiac. Next find a chiropractor or naturopath who offers the IgG Elisa test for DELAYED food allergies--your doctor can get it from metametrix.com, where he can also do a good celiac panel. You could skip the tests and just eliminate gluten (wheat and many hidden ingredients in processed foods such as MSG and caramel coloring) and dairy products, you will know if he feels better in a short time. The tests can pick up other problems tho. This has been an issue in my family, which is how I know. Encourage organic raw fresh fruits and vegetables, less starch, fat, and animal products, more water and excercise, rest and recreation. A juice fast worked for my husband and my son. Good luck!

I had the exact same problem. I went to the doctor and was told that I had a type of Stress related depression. I did not feel sad, I wasn't upset just lack of energy. They put me on Prozac and told me to force myself to do things that I enjoy that give me exercise. I forced myself to go on a walk everyday and took my prozac for two weeks which I stopped but continued walking, then started doing more activities like biking, swimming and other outdoor exercise. I am now alot more energetic and feel a huge difference than I did a month ago.

This may be a little out there but do you think it is possible that he might be suffering from "Sleep Apnea". I know few people now that suffer from it and in all the cases they couldn't figure out what was wrong with them. They all felt exhausted and would keep falling asleep during the day. Once they did the sleep study it was finally diagnosed and now they all have their lives back.

Here is a link if you want to check it out as a possibility.

Have you checked his diet to ensure he's eating foods that create energy. In other words, no sugar, no white flour, no processed foods, these just rob the body of energy.

I suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis, with this auto immune disorder comes a constant state of exhaustion. I have overcome both the pain and most of the exhaustion through diet and life style changes and write about it for others.

Although he does not suffer RA, the diet information may help.....none of us can know too much about how to keep our bodies healthy.

Posssible vitamin and mineral deficiency. A triangular balance is needed between iron, copper, zinc and magnesium. as well as estrogen and testosterone. Have the levels of these minerals checked. A mineral deficiency in zinc esp might account for his chronic fatgue syndrome.

if all of your sons body funtions have been tested and are regarded as being within normal limits i would focus my investigations on his mental health.

Have the doctor's tested his thyroid? That could be the cause of it. With all the tests and bloodwork they've done, it could be chronic fatigue syndrome if it's not his thyroid.
