With each passing day what we considered to be supernatural things can be explained by a rational scientific answer. Love one of the things thought to be mystic and unexplainable is nothing more than chemical reactions. Even faith has its origin. They've singled out a gene responsible for faith and explained that it helped us to bond and unify and therefore give us more chance to survive. Even the sense of something mystical or supernatural can be explained by certain reactions in the brain. So my question as agnostic is if science explains most things, why do you still cling to the spiritual ? Is it psychological ? Or has something happened that gives you faith. Please don't say how religion has turned your life around because that can happen appart from a god/supernatural force

I don't, and you have already answered why quite nicely.

Chemical reactions or not, explanations or not, does not negate the spiritual force behind all creation and living things. Because you know the scientific reason, does not cancel out the spiritual origin of such scientific fact. So, we've discovered the gene that causes our impulse towards faith, and love and so on, but there still has to be an originating force to all such phenomena, does there not? Yes, our earth is comprised of dirt but from whence does such dirt arise? Yes, you breathe oxygen, that causes all sorts of chemical reactions in your body, but what created oxygen in the first place? Okay, we even know the molecules that can result in oxygen, but what created those molecules then? You can go on and on and still I don't see that any explanations negate the spiritual. They rather, enhance the spiritual even more. Of course God or Source could have engineered evolution as Darwin discovered this traceable lineage to all of humanity, but this supreme higher intelligence is ever one step ahead of all our discoveries. What created God then, who? It'll ever be beyond human understanding, but you can catch glimpses of this greater power and it's not in the Bible, exclusively. It's within yourself and every being on this planet or any other! Go to ameekpress.com. You'll meet the man behind this site. His name is Stephen d'Amico. He encountered Source or God at the age of 22 and this is for real. I'm a really critical person and can detect fakery in an instant. I was given Stephen's book by a friend. It's called Heaven On Earth - A Guide to Enlightenment & Human Unity. And no, this is not God-speak or any sort of preachiness whatsoever. You can read a lot on the site to indicate if this will interest you, but I'd highly recommend go take a look. This guy is on to something that many other enlightened individuals have verified as well. There is a greater well of knowledge, that we can all access, if you learn how to find the path to get there. Then you can decide for yourself the actuality of what spirituality really is, and it is not what you might think. It's not blind belief. You'll get real verification. I'm not totally there yet myself, but I've sensed enough that I know it's there and that I will find it. No magic wand however. It takes effort and going about it the right way. Centerpointe.com can help also with Stephen's suggestions on how to get there. Several methods will achieve the same end result. Our usual daily awareness has a dimension that the majority do not access, because they do not know how. And this is not revealed in the Bible. Other religious texts reveal this and the practice has endured for centuries. You can go to ameekpress.com and ask Stephen the question you posed here. You'll get a true expert able to answer your query. Like I say, Stephen's book really made me see the light. I can't say enough that you need to go there and check it out for yourself! The origin of science still derives from the spiritual aspect, but let Stephen explain it. Then you'll really get it!

Science explains nothing; it makes discoveries about a "reality" that already exists, then postulates theory based upon those discoveries.

What is "rational" to you would not necessarily be rational to me. It is not rational to me that lumps of flesh generate emotion, or consciousness, or thought, or feeling, or intelligence, which are all the same, come from the same, "return" to the same.

Mind forms matter. There is no other rule. Scientists block their own reception of this truth because they cannot bring themselves to see that life is ephemeral, not concrete. The gene you spoke of is formed by mind; when mind "becomes" physical, it joins with the brain that it makes, and agrees to temporarily be bound by certain physical "laws".

It does this as it forms the very gene you point to, and as you point to it, you form it.

First one must define "supernatural". As western science expands and delves into more subtle aspects of reality less will be considered "out of the box"/supernatural.

I have a science background and am very skeptical. But, I have learned from various practices and gained experiences that are not easy to explain by standard Newtonian physics. But , I will not bore you with my life. I will suggest a few titles that may help you in your potential quest. "The Cosmic Serpent" and "The Holographic Universe". They are full of information and scientific in analysis. Read them and contact me if you wish.

Just because science can name some genes, and what these genes may or may not do, still does not explain were they originally came from. If you want to know what gives a person faith, you can't exclude what God has done in their life. Because it is our experiences in life, with God that helps us to understand Gods word. And as such, for that reason, our lives have been turned around. And when it is from God, we know what turned our lives around.

the short comings of our language makes it really difficult to fully explain my own definition of what you might call spirituality. It is for me an internal.....knowledge, or perhaps function, much like breathing. I have no doubt that what I know to be true is, for me, undeniable. I have always existed, I will always exist. Undoubtedly this shell I wear will fail, but then I will simply take another when I am ready to do so. Spirit seems to infer something unknown or unknowable, like faith. So I cannot say that I am spiritual, I can only say that I know what I know.

I'm sure that many things can be explained by science but that does not explain many other things that can occur only through God. I am a prime example. I was nearly crippled with a disease that can often be fatal. Myself and friends prayed that God would remove the crippling effects so that I might continue my work for him. Within six hours, my pain was gone and it has not returned...although testing still indicates I have the disease. My doc simply said...well, for some reason it is no longer active...it has gone dormant. Unheard of. In fact, she insisted on rerunning all the tests. They were right on. No scientific explanation possible...and she is one of the foremost authorities on the disease. Praise God...I am still working for him.

Maybe what you describe is in fact the physical aspect of Spirit.
Much like the relationship between the workings of a computer and the software code that it uses.
Maybe Spirit is the key that unlocks the workings of the physical world - the code of life.
