I believe that for an act to be truly righteous, it must serve God. Because according to the Bible, all the acts of an unbeliever are ultimately condemned, and have no future eternal rewards.
What do you believe, and why?

i agree. also an unbeliever can never have a truely righteous life because they are disobeying the one punishable comandment: to admit that you are a sinner and confess your sins, belive in Jesus, and accept Him as your Lord and Savior.

As a Muslim, I believe that anyone, including an unbeliever, could live a righteous life. There are plenty of non-Muslims in the world, many of whom are very righteous people. Likewise, there are plenty of Muslims in the world who are very unrighteous people.

Also, people who have not led righteous lives may go to heaven. If they have done more good than bad, they may be rewarded with paradise. (example: a lifelong crook at the last moment does some incredible deed like giving his life for the sake of others. He might be saved) Also, remember that only God can judge a human being, and that a human's life is very complex.

Yes, to the same extent that a believer can live a life of reason.

Because according to reason the acts of a fool are ultimately condemned, and have no rewards in this life (the only ONE you get) nor in the future eternity when you'll not exist.

I'm not calling you a bad person, just a fool.

Non-believers can do deeds that are relatively good and therefore can live a relatively good life. But show one verse in the bible that says that being a good person is the criterion for getting into heaven. The real test to get into heaven is not whether you are good but whether you are perfect. Good people just have more good deeds in their life than sin. But God doesn't grade on a curve. No person with any sin in their life will ever come into the presence of a perfectly Holy, Righteous God. One must be perfect to enter heaven. Since none of us can ever be perfect, there had to be another plan to take care of our sin. The plan was for God to send His only begotten Son to die on a cross to pay for our sins. For those who accept what Christ did for them on the cross and repent and follow Him, although they are still not practically perfect, they are legally perfect. If my son committed a murder and was sentenced to the electric chair and I took his place and died in his place, although nothing could ever change the fact that he committed the murder, from a legal standpoint his record would be cleared because someone else paid the price for that murder. That's what Christ did on the cross.
2Peter3:9 says " The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us–ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance". God doesn't want anyone to be lost eternally. The thing that keeps men out of heaven is sin. What Christ did on the cross is pay the penalty for those sins and thereby open the door to heaven wide for those who choose to accept what Christ did for them. Non-believers can live a relatively good life but being relatively good does not get one to heaven.

Anyone can live a good life. If an unbeliever follows his conscience and actively attempts to live a righteous life is he not following the word of God. The caveat is this, if the person willingly rejects Christ and His church, they are rejecting a just imperative from God. While we have the free will to make these choices we also have the duty to make the correct choices. Failure to do so results in consequences. Also, do not forget that Hell is full of believers too. For many are called but few are chosen.

the population of this world is 6.6 billion. there are only 1.4 head counted christians, which is probably an over estimate. are you trying to say that the vast majority of the world are not on the whole good, decent law abiding people.wouldn't this mean that secular and non christian countries would be in a permanent state of anarchy if the majority of their population were not moral upstanding citizens. are you trying to say that countries that have a majority of church attending observant christians, like nigeria and the united states, have the lowest crime rates, abortion rates, drug abuse rates because there are so many righteous people there? you should check your facts, then rethink your statement.

So according to you, if a person is righteous and serves the Goddess, he/she is condemned?

I ask this seriously and would like you to reply if you would, because a lot of Christians claim that God is neither male nor female. So, I pose the question again, what if the righteous person serves the Goddess. Does that matter to you? If so, then do you think that your deity is neither male nor female, or do you think your deity is male?

Serving God? If you are using that as the criteria for being righteous, the answer is obvious. No.

However, a non believer can lead as good a life as can a believer. Many non believers are lovers of people...of the enviornment...of peace etc.

Unbelievers = people Who do not accept GOD in JESUS de CHRIST.
YES,they can,but the question is "Are they that strong to keep on doing righteous in HIS measurement ?"
Would you be earnest to read these verses. Romans 2:12-16.
You're Christian,I presume. You don't mean to test anybody to post this question out,but inquire further explanation.
GOD bless you.

I do. I have driven children to a baseball game in a church van twice, I help everyone I can (people & animals) I believe that if people who claim to be Christians would truly follow Jesus' example, the world would be a much better place.

hey, mr. perfect,
when i do the "right" thing it is because my mind and heart tells me this is what is right. it is not because i'm afraid of burning in hell or because i want to get in to some fictional paradise. you are all like children, you can only behave if threatened with punishment or bribed with rewards. my intentions are pure as my acts aren't done from fear or greed, and i say greed because look how many christians like to try to rub it in ppls faces that they will go to heaven and u will not. it seems you all delight in the thought that other ppl will face eternal suffering if they don't believe what you do, personally i think it's sick and twisted.
