Hey Billybonz - I'll offer this for your consideration.
I have experienced similar states, and was also confused as to the sorrow and anger that followed - it just didn't seem to add up. How could such awful feelings follow on the heels of such light ????
Fortunately, I had someone well versed in the art on meditation, and so altered experiences, to ask. What I was told was that when we expand in such a way as you experienced, we are essentially beyond the self we normally inhabit. We have expanded out into a greater Self, and are literally experiencing ourselves as "one with". No longer just an intellectual concept, we are truly expanded.
What causes the difficulty, the disconnection and depression that you refer to, is that we then have to become small again. The spirit, or soul, always longs to know itself in the greater sense....when we do, bliss. It is difficult to remain in that state, so we hold it as best we can, and then it is gone. How could disconnection not be evident? We felt "One", and now it is gone.
You are not wrong, or abnormal, and I believe we are indeed meant to have those experiences. The wider and larger the emotions you feel, it is inevitable that you will then become aware of equal and opposite. Because think about it - you stretched yourself to feel more than you ever had, and so you felt darkness like never before - only because you had made that stretch. I believe that's why enlightenment is a process of levels - otherwise, it would smply be too much. Think of it like a rubber band in reverse - the more you stretch to such a place, the more able you are to make that stretch, and to stretch further.
If you understand that what you felt is part of the process, as really, the "One" is ALL things, then the worry subsides, and you adjust. And it gets less painful. And your spirit/soul begins to understand that it wasn't a one time thing, and it can relax.
There is a term in meditative practices called integration. It is of vital importance to employ after such deep mystical experiences, and makes a huge difference. It's simple - you just remain quiet and alone, and you control your mind. You only think positive thoughts, progressive thoughts. Whether you are reflecting on your experience, or day to day stuff, keep it constructive. There is a power there, and it will go and enliven, magnify, whatever you are thinking about. I hope this helps.
Peace, and namaste.

Yes, a mystical experience definitely raises the consciousness level of the being, because it involves the spiritual realm of universal existence that lies above the mind and is thus beyond the perception of the human mind. I am an agno-myst and I do not believe in God or Holy spirit or any deity, but I have undergone certain experiences which are still beyond the understanding of my mind and the logic. These experiences occurred as a result of my spiritual practices and I owe these experiences to the ultimate existential truth or the absolute consciousness, which I believe is nameless, formless, infinite, one and the same everywhere. I have mentioned one such experience in detail in my yahoo blog and profile that can be viewed through view pulse option.

I have had many mystical experiences, especially very early in my Spiritual journey. This is very normal among people who meditate. If you are a christian and doing centering meditation it is best to have a Spiritual Adviser because they can help you sort out the experience that you are having. If you are another religion then talk to one of the monks or grues in that religion. If you like to read, Thomas Merton is easy to read and he was a christian mystic who died in the mid 1060's. Here is a website for people who meditate:

I meditate quite often and yes it does give you extra ordinary experiences like that. It actually makes me feel like I belong. I can hear and feel the things i can't normally hear or see. I feel like i am rising above the ground. After meditation, everything just seem so clear. It increases my mind power.

No we aren't. You opened your mind to influences outside of God and have got a spirit of depression. You need to renounce this experience and believe that Jesus will set you free if you call on his name. 'resist the devil and he will flee from you.'' We resist him by knowing and believing the truth.
