I've had the Holy Ghost before and have spoken in tongues. My friends of different religions do not believe in those things. I explain the feeling but they seem to have closed ears. I do not get upset with them but wonder if what I am doing is just a figment of my imagination?

It is a wondrous experience. It usually happens when I am praying or just praising the Lord and these words come to me that I have never heard. But I know that God understands. It's hard to explain the joy I feel when I'm that close to our Heavenly Father.
Please do not think it's your imagination, it's a personal gift from God. Embrace it!

The Gift of the Holy Ghost from the laying on of hands is an incredibly thing. The problem is its difficult to explain the experience in words that anyone can understand.

When the Spirit of the Lord rests upon you it is not a figment of the imagination. It is the Lord in His love, power and glory visiting you with such strength that you cannot deny the truth. His peace rests upon you.

And in those situations if you need to preach the word to those whose language you do not comprehend the Lord will bless you with the words. You will speak in tongue.

Just remember, that the gifts of the Spirit are for the edification of mankind. They are designed to lift us to a higher place then we currently are. It's better to prophecy then to speak in tongues, but the greatest gift of all is the gift of charity. Because the advesary can imitate many gifts of the Spirit, but he cannot imitate the gift of charity. That gift is the pure love of Christ we have for others. When we see them as Christ does.

Seek that gift and you will quickly realize that it is not your imagination. that the Spirit has blessed you with the capacity to love others.

What you and I are doing is 100% Biblical!!! Some people say that tongues have ceased but they are wrong every gift from God is alive and active today. Move on in the power available from being baptized in the Holy Spirit and maybe when they see what you have they will wake up to the truth.

Praying in tongues is a powerful weapon against the enemy. When you pray in tongues you pray, not out of your mind, but your spirit-man is praying. When your spirit is praying it is praying out devine mysteries that only God understands. Because of the incredible power released in such prayers the evil one seeks to make all believers who have been baptised in the Holy Spirit and spoken with other tongues think they are crazy. And it is not to hard to reach that conclusion since your mind can't understand what you are saying and if others were to hear you they would think you are acting foolish. Better to please God than men.

Part of the devine mysteries you are praying out is God's future plans for your life. Spend 30-60 min a day praying in tongues. In time God may also grant you the interpretation and you can know in your mind what it was you were praying out in the spirit.

Don't be afraid. Don't be ashamed. And don't back down!

For thus saith the Lord, "I shall do a new work in you and through you shall I touch this generation if you will harken to my voice and follow me."

1 Corinthians 14:2
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

1 Corinthians 14:4
He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

1 Corinthians 14:14
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful

I have and as a christian I believe it was these two experiences that really has confirmed that God is real. Unfortunately the atheists really like to bash on the christians about these two topics but they are being very ignorant and inconsiderate of our feelings. If they have ever felt these two experiences I'm confident they will feel the presence of God and believe that he is real.

Yes I have it's not a figment of your imagination. Don't worry about what your friends tell you. You have a prayer language you can use talking to the Lord...Keep using it...the Spirit knows when and how to pray even when we don't..
God bless.

how can you explain the wind.
how can you explain the taste of ice cream.
how can you explain a relationship with the Holy Spirit.
pray in the spirit to build yourself up.
when you have doubts, pray.
you have the Spirit of God to lead you and guide you.
and yet you receive doubts, form those that have neither.
therefore strengthen your self in the Lord and the power of His word.

I went to a youth group meeting in Taiwan where people claimed to speak in tongues and "demonstrated" it. Quite honestly, it freaked me the heck out. I don't believe they were speaking in tongues. After all, God gave that gift to people on Pentecost so that they could go out and spread the Gospel to people who spoke other languages. In the youth group meeting, I'd needed a friend to translate everything from Mandarin to English for me. In the meeting, people shared testimonies and talked about the Gospel and prayed for one another -- and all of that had to be translated for me. Then, when they were praying out loud, someone started "speaking in tongues" and before you knew it a lot of people were practically yelling gibberish. It didn't make sense to anyone in the room, and it didnt' sound like ANY language I know of on Earth (and I've studied English, German, Polish, and Mandarin, so I'm familiar with Asian and Slavic and Germanic languages). If God gave people the gift of speaking in tongues so that they could speak to foreigners, and if the people in that meeting really could speak in tongues, why was the gift of tongues not used so that they could communcate with me in English? Afterward when someone asked me what I thought about the meeting and the prayers, I referenced the origin of speaking in tongues in the book of Acts (my Bible even conveniently happened to fall open to that page), but because of the langauge barrier, discussion was difficult. It's too bad someone didn't ACTUALLY HAVE the gift of speaking in tongues so that we could have communicated about God with one another!!

I do believe that God sometimes does give people the gift of speaking in tongues. However, I believe that the role of gift of speaking in tongues is clearly outlined in scripture, and that people who claim to speak in tongues for other purposes are being deceived by their subconscious.

In short:
~A missionary encountering a group of people and preaching the Gospel to them in English (he thinks) and that group understanding him in their native langauge (which is what they hear) = Speaking in tongues.
~A woman, being led by the Holy Spirit, visits the home of a distant relative in a foreign country and is suddenly able to communicate with that relative in their native language = Speaking in tongues.
~A person praying in a special "prayer language" that can't be understood by any human present = Not speaking in tongues.
