When I was about 9 years old I started gaining weight, and I was in 4th grade. I'm currently going into 7th grade and I hate being the fat kid. Nobody teases me about it or says anything about it, but I just want to be able feel comfortable with myself. I am 5'2 and weigh around 140 pounds. I used to go to martial arts, but stopped that a few months ago. I occasionally play tennis. I am also planning on signing up for lacrosse during the next school year. I also never eat junk food, my parents are complete health-nuts. And since I have food allergies I can't have the many sweets that have soy or nuts. I also never snack. I do play a video game on my computer, I used to play for hours a day, but now I don't even play every day and I continue to gain weight. I have tried the workout tapes, and the doctor says it has nothing to do with my diet. Nothing seems to be working... How do I lose this extra weight?

Just be as active as you can. Limit the time you spend sitting down and playing games or watching tv and play outside instead. Even if it is taking a short walk, or shooting hoops; and yes tennis is very good exercise; play more often; even if it is just bouncing the ball with the raquet or hitting against a wall. Since it is nice outside, swim, and volunteer to cut grass, garden, walk the dog, or do outside work for parents or neighbors. Little things like this that you don't realize help burn calories. Also set a goal for yourself and start a daily exercise routine. Write down a plan that you are going to do a certain number of sit ups per day and follow that plan and as you get better, increase the number you are doing. Also, do not use workout tapes, no matter what they tell you they are just designed to make you feel bad about yourself; everyone doing the exercise on the tapes are already healthy athletic people who are not struggling to lose weight and they make it look easy. Finally, watch your portion size. Just because you are not eating junk doesn't mean you are eating healthy. Its not what you eat; its the quantity. Don't go back for seconds, and if you are hungry later eat cereal, fruit, or another healthy snack. Be confident and try some of these things and tell yourself you ARE going to lose weight.

Don't ever starve yourself!! There are all kinds of things that can make you heavy. There is even a virus that can cause this. You must never again (ever) eat large portions if food. Eat a little 4 times a day. Eat only fruit, vegetables, and lean meat. My young son went past 240 pounds and went on this program. But there are 3 things that are very bad for people who are young and have a weight problem, pop (even diet), candy and sweets, and chips. Remember, this thing is NOT called a diet....this is a way of life that must be followed until you decide to get as fat as a cow.

You're too young...in my opinion to go on a "diet". So don't let anyone talk you in to that non-sense.
Weight is a combination of many factors including, genetics (your family pass downs), what you currently eat, activity level and potentially different medical things going on.
Without knowing what you currently eat, there is no easy answer. However, some fundementals generally apply.
Watch what you eat. McDonalds...generally not a good idea. Foods full of sugars...not good. Fryed foods...not good. But then again, everything in moderation. DON'T completely deny yourself of "fun" foods...such as those above or you will tend to binge.
Stick with vegtables (not all yuck), chicken, fish, fresh fruits...and drink LOT'S of water. Drinking adequate amounts of water can make a HUGE difference.
Of course---increase your activity level. Bike riding, walking, playing outside. Video games are not physical activity.
More than anything...be confident in yourself. Strive to improve...but accept who you are.
In other words...have the courage and strength to work towards changing the things you can change...and the wisdom to accept the things that you can't change.

Agreed, go to the doctor, maybe there is a thyroid problem?
Try walking. If you can, walk to school. It is the best way to stay active without actually doing a huge extra thing.
Find people who go to the same school who walk or ride bikes before and after. So now you arent alone.
Go on walks at night, take along any pets you have.
