Mine were cured with diet. Cut of trans fats and sugars and take multi vitamins. Damaged nerves can also cause them in which case B vitamins are helpful I'm sure other people have different triggers.

What causes them is constriction of the blood vessels in the head. The constriction can come from all kinds of different sources. Most migraine medicines are a combination of painkillers and a substance that dilates (opens) the blood vessels in the head.
