my friend and i rented a movie and i want it on my computer so i was going to rip it into iPod format and put it on my iPod. he is sitting next to me yelling at me telling me that they can tell when you rip a dvd to your computer. is this true?

There was a company that placed software from the movie on to your computer to tell when you were pirating.

they got in trouble for it.

This is by definition- a virus. The user was unaware and never agreed for software to be loaded on to their computer.

They had to stop.

I forgot which company did it- but they already had DVD's released and out there with this software.

in general- no.

Paranoid? disconnect your Internet connection and run spy ware afterward.
