Usually-most/all states I'm guessing here, you get a ticket and either pay the fine or go to court and try to fight it. If you don't do either, the judge will issue a bench warrant to force you to appear in court to answer for the ticket. Most likely the prosecuting attorney will also ask the judge to suspend your license as well. So, if you get pulled over or stopped for whatever reason, you're going to jail(so make sure to carry enough cash on you to bond out), if you're in your car it will be towed and impounded as well. Best bet is to go down to the clerk's office and get it straightened out. It won't just "go away", especially if it's signed off on by a judge....

Usually you just get your license suspended, and after you pay the ticket off, you pay a re-instatement fee and get your license back... I know that i didn't pay a ticket and got mine suspended and like a year later they sent me a letter sayin if i was caught driving a warrant would automatically be issued for my arrest.

From my experience, here in Calif, the court is considerate on first ticket violations and they do give consideration to people out of State. I suspect the misdemeanor stands for a crime committed, yours is a traffic, moving violation, they may give you what you suspect that they will. You have to appear in court because the judge is the only one that can sentence you, do not be afraid and do appear in court, if you do not it will only anger the court and it will go harder on you. Keep this in mind, the policeman has to appear also, if he is not in court you may win by default.

Depending on your area, a warrant is issued for your arrest. It was quite upsetting for my boss to get arrested at work one day for just that thing. I'd get myself on down to the courthouse and get that sucker paid off. Way less costly.
In other jurisdictions, your license is suspended. Big surprise when you get pulled over for some minor thing and find that out.

You will pay a higher fine, and the State may suspend or revoke your license.
