Is Porn Art? Why or Why Not?

This is my opinion, Yes it is and can be an art, if its done in a tastefull manner and dont have any nasty shots of anything distastefull,! Now if its done in a distastefull way then its not an art, meaning that they will show everything and every where and be very detailed about it! People have their own views about porn and how dirty and wrong it is and what it says in the bible about it! People can be very judgemental about porn and why and how they see it everywhere and splashed on everything fom papers to internet to tv, to news! SO in my opinion it would have to be done in a tastefull way!! It would have to be like phototagraphy and taking pictures of a nude female or a nude male! People look at it from different way or aspects!

Art (modern art) is search for NEW expression. That's why you see people trying all sorts of strange thing (for the NEWness). Most of art critiques will tell you that art is not something willy nilly "it is whatever the view makes of it" kind of explanation.

In this way repetition of the same ART becomes copying and no longer art. Why is the original Van Gogh's fields of sunflower is art (not particularly difficult to emulate) and something done by an art student NOT an art but a copy of art. Because Van Gogh's vision was new (at the time) while the student's is copy and not new vision. The ARTIST are often encouraged to create variations of the new art piece to show different views or just the artists prolific ability. That is also why art student often study ART HISTORY.

Few years back, there was an exhibit in NYC called "**** art" where the artist had the crucifix in a huge jar of urine. Some people thought it should be considered art because the newness, while others felt that newness is an important aspect of modern art, but being JUST new shouldn't automatically qualify the piece as art. So the NEWnes factor is an important consideration.

So porn can be art if it can bring something new to the world. That's why Madonna's book "SEX" was controversial and some considered it art (because some felt there was some new vision of sex) and other felt it was just repetition.

But most of porn is just plain repetition so they definitely don't fall into the category of art. Many of the what we call erotic art falls into that category because the newness. If you were to see some of the Helmet Newton it is (almost) vulgur (with anal insertions, etc.) But it is considered art (erotic art).

Nope, coz Porn doesn't come from Talents but from natural Lust. Its something that comes just naturally to everyone while having sex. Whereas, an Art is a kind of a talent that needs lot of years and efforts to build.

Not to me. Its not about anything other than the obvious- which isn't a new message to anybody. Its purpose isn't to expand the mind or to beautify the world. It just gives guys something to jack off too. Also- it has certain conventions that are pretty much always kept to. I think its unimaginiative and boring.

Porn can only be considered art if the chick is fantastic looking, if shes a godawful looking butterball, then no, not art.
