I don't think age has anything to do with that. When you feel your kid can understand what is the right thing and what is going on between real and not real.

Something similar happened to me last week, when I flipped to the channel which was showing Family Guy and the like, and my 12 year old cousin was there, and his parents. The parents were like, "You're not seriously watching that trash, are you?" but I didn't take the hint and kept on watching, laughing, and my cousin stayed where he was. Later, my brother told me what the parents meant and I felt so ashamed and depressed. I started watching Family Guy when I was my cousin's age, with my parents sometimes, and they used to say, "That's such a vulgar show. Turn it off." but they weren't really strict in saying so, and I kept on watching. Now, they don't mind that I watch it constantly. They're like, "Oh, Family Guy's on? We'll go upstairs then so you won't be bothered by our noise." It just really depends on the parents. The channels recommend Family Guy type shows for those 14 and up, and I think that's a good age, if they even like those kinds of shows. (Even I sometimes think they go too far) 7 years old is far too young to be learning curse words and drug usage.

I'd never, as a parent, *endorse* them watching either... but I'd leave the choice about Family Guy up to them when they're mature enough to understand SATIRE and mature enough to know not to "parrot" the offensive stuff back to people later. Then, I'd do everything I could to discourage them from watching it anyway, lol.
South Park would NEVER be allowed in my house. There's a huge difference between Family Guy and South Park. If you put Family Guy at 6 on a 1-10 scale of offensiveness, then you ought to put South Park at around a 20.
I'm 22 and staying w/ mom and dad temporarily, and I'm still technically not allowed to watch the Simpsons. I am, after all, under their roof. :)

There is no "correct" answer. You should not ask what of age but rather 'how mature they are'. Do you think your kids will imitate the material of the show? If not then you should demonstraight your faith in them by letting them watch, it will instill more trust between you and the child, and the child will feel less compeled to assert his further independence thru aggresion and will put just that much more peace and love in your family.

Well my step-son is almost 15 and he watches these shows late an night when we sleep. He knows he shouldnt be watching these shows, but the way this world is today, its hard to keep these words and this type of knowledge away from our kids. But in my opinion children 15 and up I guess would be appropriate considering the way this world is.

Probably age 13 for Family Guy, and 16 for South Park.

Some kids mature faster than others, so each one is an individual case. The parents should know at what age their children are ready to watch those shows and whether or not they will learn inappopropriate things from them.

I would never let my child watch Southpark. I watched it one time and it was funny but inappropriate. Maybe 15 for Family Guy. Whatever your decision, make sure your kids understand why they can't watch it. Kids rebel when they are told they CAN'T do something and do not understand why.
