I answered this for another before. If you do not know what the name of the insurance company is, then you can check with your state department of insurance and they can look up which company. If you know the company's name, then call them and they can tell you. No one on this thread needs to tell you that the policy is gone, lapsed, or you are wasting your time. The reason is simple, they do not know. They think they know more than the average person, and are full of themselves. You never know, the policy could be a small paid up policy and you could keep it or cash it, or it could be lapsed. You don't know and neither does anyone else. It doesn't matter if they are an agent 21 + years, or just started out. They don't know. Call the department of insurance and they can help you if you do not know the company. Good luck.

Well, unless he kept paying for it every year, it's lapsed.

You'll have to go to the executor of the estate, and request access to the last two years of cancelled checks from his bank, to see what insurance company, and what policy number.

There is no central database where you can look it up.

MOST of the time, these policies lapse. And even if it didn't, it's not likely WORTH anything, and you can't DO anything with it anyway.

the Executor or Personal Representative of his estate is responsible for this. That person, attorney, or firm, was appointed by the Probate Court [or similar] in the state and county where he legally resided when he died. This appointment is a public record and may be searchable via the Internet.

If you know the company the policy was with you can also check with them.
