Both, we all strive, work, in life to make a living to work. As we work, we live and as we live, we strive to continue to live to work to live.

Work to live.
Life is to short to be defined by what I do.
I have never heard of any one on their death bed wishing they had spent more time at work, and people don't carry pictures of their bosses in their wallets either.

I enjoy my job, and it gives me great satisfaction. But, if I had a windfall tomorrow and knew I never had to work again. I would turn in my resignation dated the day my private medical insurance took effect and never look back.

Neither. I live, and then in my life, I work, but not to live because I'm already alive, and I don't live to work because I don't like working.
