Hey why doesnt everyone actually read the article. Nascar has a very nasty habit of changing the rules to suit their own needs. The thing most casual fans dont want to understand or are blind to is the fact that ALL teams alter their cars in some way. Why do you think Nascar wanted so badly for this new car? The current car if you look at it, the body is very skewed, however nobody really sees this because everyone has gotten used to how the car looks.
The cars in question fit the templates that Nascar has, they just didnt like the fact that HMS screwed with any part of the COT, even it was an area fit the templates! So either Nascar needs to come up with better templates or they just need to impound all the car bodies until the teams get to the race track. Then once at the race track post 4 "officials" to watch over each corner of the car so that no part of the body can be altered. The part of the car that was deemed illegal was the fender, who is to say what impact this would have had on the road course. With the way the cars have been handling the fender modification may have worked against them.
I am a fan of the sport of Nascar and nothing more. I just think it is very silly to have a very anti-whatever against a race team. They were caught and more than likely they will be punished. I imagine that they will lose points, money and more than likely crew chiefs.

there' a difference between cheating and altering a car within the diameters of the template what waltrip did by adding illegal fuel addative and hendricks did with a new fender are completely different all teams adjust there cars within perameters if hendricks had'nt been winning so much this year nascar would have allowed this change it's a shame they are being penalized for being so good but nascar wants to make sure all the rest of you fans who rout for losing teams dont decide to turn off the t.v. so if your driver cant stop hendricks then nascar has to its a shame thats the only way to catch gordon this year

ok...it was a simple mistake...but u know that all would cheat to win if there was a chance they wouldnt get caught....but i dont really care...i will still support hendricks no matter what....plp need to get over the whole hate thing with them cause they r just jealous over a winning team....GOOO #48!!!!!!!!!

No, it wasn't cheating, if you go to www.nascar.com, they have a video with an explanation. They over modified the template under the hood. Guidelines weren't clear enough. Check it out.

There are very few instances of teams cheating on purpose. The inspections are too rigorous. You just can't get away with anything.
When teams fail inspection, it isn't cheating as much as it is a lack of attention to detail. It's called carelessness...and I think that is almost as bad as cheating, just in a different area.
Gordon, Johnson, Waltrip, and all the other guys who were nailed this year and in recent years were more a result of people not doing thier jobs correctly...not cheating.

They didn't get nailed for vilolations till after Dale Jr. signed with HMS. Hmmmmm.

What Hedricks cheating!You (and the rest of NASCAR and fans made a mistake.The picture with the rules was not clear and they made a simple mistake.
The teams should have been put on their transporters and sent back to Charlotte.
