Seems like a lot of muslims are against him, but when I question them, none of them knew why they hated him. All they said was that he wrote a book that insulted the prophet. When I asked if they had read the book, none of them did. What's worst is that some of them don't even know the book title that supposedly "insulted the prophet".

No it doesn't. Have you read the book "The Satanic Verses" ? How do you know that such a book insults the prophet?

"Complete and utter drivel", That's just your opinion. The point is if say I write a book that is "Complete and utter drivel", muslims all over the world will want to kill me?

2007-06-23 15:33:22 · update #2

So you are saying that muslims want to kill him because he

- became a british citizen
- renounced islam
- Khomeni wants him dead
- Got knighted by the Queen

There are plenty of people who did at least 1 of those things in the world, but I guess there is no one who manage to do all 4. So you are saying if you do all 4 of those things, muslims will want to kill you?

MoonLit Muslima: How does that reference the prophet? Was the prophet's name mentioned? Whose name you want to replace? On a jumbo jet? You mean during 7th century arabia, there was a jumbo jet? Why are you angry at this story of fiction?

MoonLit Muslima: So now everyone who is named Gabriel have to change their names?

2007-06-23 16:30:25 · update #6

Moonlit muslima:
You said, "In the novel, Rushdie has a writer sentenced to death by a religious leader."

What's wrong with that? I don't see why can't he write about that. You mean from now on, no one can write about anyone being sentenced to death? Those who do will get themselves killed by muslims?

You said, "The writer in the book is a scribe meant to chronicle the life of a prophet who - as the writer of the book enjoys riddling - both "is and is not" Mohammed."

Woah, Woah, woah....this is entirely made up by you. Can you show me where in the book did it claim that it is writing about a character who "is and is not Mohammad"?

You said, "Creating this character, who exists within a psychotic dream of one of the two men who fell from the airplane, was a natural extension of Rushdie's personal horror at fundamentalist Islamic rule."

Now this is way beyond extrapolation. How did you get from 2 people following from a plane to "Rushdie's horror at islam"?

Whats with the term "ANGEL gabreel". You mean muslims want to kill him because of the term "ANGEL gabreel"? Now people who are named Angel have to change their name too? For you info, Angel is a legit name. Search the web if you don't believe me.

2007-06-24 02:28:13 · update #9

Moonlit muslima: NO, it is not clear at all. There is no reference to Muhammad at all in the book. Please show me where it says that the religious leader is Muhammad.

Remember, this is a book that got many people killed by muslims. Face it, we all know why he is so hated, he is so hated not because he wrote that book, he is so hated because a certain Iranian ayatolla placed a fatwa on his head and brainwashed muslims being as violent as they are decides they must kill him. Other muslim leaders wanting to outdo the iranian ayatolla, also decides to put a fatwa on his head so as not to lose out, resulting in more brainwashed muslims wanting to kill him.

Moonlit muslima: Okay, so its an angel gabreel falling from a jumbo jet. So lets say it was archangel gabreel. Can you tell me how can someone go from archangel gabreel falling off a jumbo jet to having muslims wanting to kill this author and anyone associated with the publishing of this book?

What I don't get is that there are many other books EXPLICITLY condeming islam. Let me quote you something from prophetofdoom.net,

"According to the earliest and most revered Islamic sources, Muhammad was a sexual pervert, a thief, and a terrorist."

Now you are saying that this book is okay, but the book about archangel gabreel falling off a jumbo jet is so much not okay that muslims will want to kill the author and anyone associated in publishing the book?

2007-06-24 15:25:12 · update #11

Moonlit muslima: I'm sorry, I'm not hindu and don't know hindi. To me the names are just like normal names. Replace them with say a common name like instead of "archangel gabreel", to say "Chris Angel" and instead of the "Chamcha" name, replace it with "Wile E. Coyote".

The more Muslim answers I read the more disgusted I get. How can anyone defend wanting to kill someone for expressing their God Given Right to free speech? All Muslims should be outraged that there is violence threatened against Rushdie...that would show once and for all that islam is a religion of peace. But they aren't, they accept it, they want him dead. No Christian is threatening to kill him for mentioning Angel Gabriel (who was in the Holy Bible long before the unholy quran).

I say God Bless The Queen and England for not cowering to the hateful Muslims in the world.

God Bless.

It's called 'The Satanic Verses'.. Need I say more? Title pretty much sums it up doesn't it.

Edit: Yes I have, here's a little about it,

The Satanic Verses begins with a description of Gibreel ( GABRIEL) the angel and Saladin Chamcha falling from a plane into the English Channel and surviving. Gibreel is flying to London to find his lover, Alleluia Cone, while Saladin is coming home from an acting gig in Bombay. Before blowing up the plane, terrorists hijack their jumbo jet and hold them captive for one hundred and ten days, during which time Gibreel fights against the sleep that brings him vivid religious dreams.

Ok, Now you tell me, if I replaced Gabreil with someone from your faith, would you not be mad?

EDIT # 2---

In the novel, Rushdie has a writer sentenced to death by a religious leader. The writer in the book is a scribe meant to chronicle the life of a prophet who - as the writer of the book enjoys riddling - both "is and is not" Mohammed. Creating this character, who exists within a psychotic dream of one of the two men who fell from the airplane, was a natural extension of Rushdie's personal horror at fundamentalist Islamic rule.

IS THAT CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YA?

Also, he does not only just say the name "gabreel", he specifically says the ANGEL gabreel. The he associates him with a lover and throws him on a hijacked plane... coincidence? I don't think so.

EDIT # 3!

Ok now I said angel as a translation for you, in the book he said "farishta" which is the hindi word for angel, and there is no such thing as a hindi or urdu name as farishta. Then he specifically states as Gabreel being an archangel. hmm, so now your going to tell me that people are named archangel to : fyi : I am american sweety, i know all about names.

2nd.. I didn't make all that stuff up, question: did you even read the book? " Farishta takes on the personality of the archangel Gibreel, and Chamcha, that of a devil. " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Satanic_Verses_(novel).... Chamcha means friend or slave, He is saying he was the slave of a devil.

Anything else you want cleared up?

Heres an interesting quote

THE DAILY NEWS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1,1989

Rushdie

LONDON: Author Roald Dahl has launched an extraordinary attack on fellow writer Salman Rushdie, calling him a "dangerous opportunist".

In a letter to yesterday's Times newspaper, the world renowned author of children's books said: 'Clearly he has profound knowledge of the Muslim religion and its people, and he must have been totally aware of the deep and violent feelings his book would stir up among devout Muslims "in other words he knew exactly what he was doing and he cannot plead otherwise."

Dahl said this type of sensationalism did get "indifferent" hooks to the top of the best-seller list "but to my mind it is a cheap way of doing it.

"To my mind, he is a dangerous opportunist." He later told reporters:

"I think he's a twit."

first he sold his soul to the devil to get the British passport and the British citizenship, second he was a Muslim and then turned christian to fit into British society, third he wrote the book that you mentioned in 1988 and was titled: "The Satanic Verses", that book resulted in a death sentence issued by the religious leader of Iran. the queen of England then rewarded him for his radical ideas against Islam, and I think that did bring his old story back to the spotlight and that did not play well with Muslims around the world because it seems like anyone who speaks against Muslims get rewarded by the West, and that brings the idea of West superiority and the Crusade back to life which brings back many pages of history, hate and anger with it.

Hey, it is not just the Muslims!
He has cost the British taxpayer MILLIONS in protection costs, and then he swans off to America.
And to cap it all, the British government in all its insane logic, nominated him for a knighthood!!!!!!!
He is NOT a poor man, but he must have scratched a lot of backs to get the favouritism that he received.
And I have read the Satanic verses.
Complete and utter drivel.
I am certain it was all a publicity stunt, to boost the sales of a mediocre work of fiction.

It's typical of muslims to blindly follow their religious leaders/owners.

They have no brains of their own so its not what Rushdie did that is important but what those religious leaders find anti-Islamic that matters and we all know it is very easy to be perceived as anti-Islamic by those loony Muslims.
