I've never used DVDs to learn guitar techniques, but I have watched professionals on stage and TV, plus guitar-playing friends that offered tips.

I echo the above responses and recommend getting an electronic tuner. If you can ever find a strobe light tuner grab it! They're far superior than any LED tuner you'll find. I purchased an Ovation Strobe tuner back in 1978 for $35 and have never seen another like it.

Yep, go to http://stringdancer.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi
they have an interesting site for guitar people and on the home page there's an electronic tuner for free in the upper right hand corner, just put you mouse arrow on the vertical line, there are six representing the strings of the guitar and you'll hear the correct pitch. All you have to do is get a password and usuer name, and give your e-mail address, and that's it, this one is really free, I've used it for over a year now.

i think the best thing to do is buy an electronic tuner, this will let you tune it up/down half steps, if thats how it is on the dvd,
also, maybe the guy on the dvd is using different types of strings

buy a tuner, and don't watch a dvd to learn how to play guitar.
