I want to know how many of you would have the same reaction... I have a neighbor who has a laundry line, and on it, was hanging a picture of three women's butts, naked... Oops.. She says it's not a big deal.. They were wearing thongs... Her fence is totally broken, and you can clearly see it from my backyard, no problem...I have four boys, ages 9 down to 4... That was not a talk I wanted to have with them yet, but the damage is done... I asked her very, very nicely to hang it else where so my boys would not see it... She was so offended by this, she announced that she would hang them everywhere just to spite me... I am not a prude, but I just dont want my boys seeing this...She did not get it...I did not mention morals, anything that could be construed as judgemental... I just told her I did not want my boys to see stuff like that at their age.. Not to mention the fact that I have nuns comming to my house in a couple of weeks....That would be lovely, eh???
Opinions please...

Also, yes, I know it's her back yard and she has every right to do this... I simply asked her for a favor... She has no children..

I did play it down with the kids...We dont have a beach anywhere around, so this is the first time they have seen something like this, in their own back yard anyway...Oh, thanks to all, or most of you, for your answers...

I say put up a six foor privacy fence, just on that one side of the yard. You did the right thing. You can't control her behavior in her yard, but you can ask. Ask the nuns to pray for her, it may help.

If she doesn't have a dryer, she has to dry her towel. Where else can she hang it? Her back porch is probably shaded where it wouldn't dry well. If someone were to ask me I would definitely remove it. Maybe you should put up a privacy fence or ask her if it would be okay if you hung a tarp or something over the broken part of the fence. If you don't make a big deal out of it, chances are the boys will think nothing of it.

fix the fence. What else are you looking for? And I guess you do not bring the to dept. stores where the maniquins are just wearing bras and panties. Or walk through the mall and walk right pass Victorias Secret. Or what about the news paper with the sales ads where models are wearing almost nothing. I guess you need to fight the world about this one. You really need to apologize to the neighbors and think before you react.

Hmmm.
I'm of 2 minds about this.
She does have a right to hang what she wants, but you have a right not to have to look at it.
If she does it again, Take a picture from your vantage point.
Then, make an obscenity complaint.
Obscenity is defined by community standards- you very likely could convince the city that this is against their standards.
There also might be some statute against it.

The Flip Side?
You could Build a bigger fence.
And then get a NOISY game the kids can enjoy in your backyard.
Revenge is best served cold.

I just want to make sure I'm understanding your question correctly - it's a towel that has the picture of butts in thongs?
If yes, then I would think you are making a big deal over it - my kids see worse things at the local beach here. And even in the grocery stores there are postcards with people in thongs and such. Maybe it's because we live in S. Florida - I don't know - I don't really see what the big deal is.

Dont you hate it when some people who dont have children can be so insensitve sometimes. I mean the idiot could have at least seen your point about your childrening seeing this, but she didn't care. She's selfish, rude and inconsiderate. She's not continueing to hang the towel b/c you offended her it's b/c she's knows this upsets you. She wants to get a rise out of you. As for the nuns coming well not much you can do. It's on her property and they know that it's hers and not yours.

You have a problem. If she is going to spite you .... this lady is off the hook. Just ignore her now. Sit down with the kids and explain to them what a whack job she is and explain the towel. Kids are pretty mature today

A jerk is always gonna be a jerk. Buuuuut they will see this at the beach or lake or TV anyway so just tell them the best that you could that it's just a butt and everyone has one...just, not everyone should show them.

Little kids giggle at stuff like that anyway. It's not one of those things that are gonna send them to therapy.

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask her not to hang it in plain sight of your kids. It shows her poor and tacky taste, however, like you said, it is her yard so if she won't change I guess you're stuck with it? I guess we can at least be thankful she's helping the environment by drying her clothes on a line..?!
