She will be 6 years old in July, and we plan to invite 10-15 boys and girls. I'm looking for something that will be fun for all of the children, special to my daughter, but doesn't cost $500 like many of the party options I've looked into.

I am open to having it in my home, but it is small, so I think having it somewhere outside my home would really be better.

Take them to the beach or the park. Then you can just get cake and ice cream. You can also make party favor bags. They are cheap to make. You can get the stuff at wal-mart. Pizza Hut is also a good place for a party. If you buy 5 large 1 topping pizzas, they are only $5 dollars a piece. I had my sons party at Pizza Hut and it cost way less than $500 dollars. If she wants it at a particular place write $10 admission cost on the invitations, don't feel obligated to pay for everyone. Goodluck, and Happy Birthday to your daughter.

Hey! Yeh, these days, all the cool partys pretty much break the bank!
Here are some things I DON'T recommend:
Pool party - Some of them might not be able to swim like a profesional and its too caotic with more than 3 children.
Hotel resteraunt - Too expensive and you'd be worried about the stuff.
Some I DO recommend:
Theme party - Have it at your house or the park. Girls can dress up as fairies and boys as pirates. Play pin the wand on the fairy and the hat on the pirate. Have the kids make swords and wands to go in the party bags.
Picnic - Just the entrance too the park and the food! Lets them all come and play on the swing etc. Then, have a picnic rug and eat homemade food and maybe some chips. Pass the parsel would be an easy game too!
$2 Shop - Give them $6 each and take them to the $2 shop. After, take them to the park for a play and some food.
Hope I helped!

some ideas:
1. Loot bags can be done for about 5 dollars per child. Dollar stores are great for that! That right there will be 50 or 60 dollars with that many kids. The rest of the money will be spent on food and cake. NOW you can make a creative cake that is much cheaper..most parenting sites have directions for some truly creative cakes your daughter will love. They are really not that hard..i do one every year and am not crafty!
2.Food--I would go with BBQ hotdogs. The weather will more then likely be nice by then. I have no idea what your surroundings are like but a BBQ is cheap and kids love it! You can go to a local bulk food store and grab some bags of candy, gummy worms, etc and place them around in bowls for the kids to munch on. Kool aide is cheap and kids like it. I personally serve juice at parties.
3. Activities--like i said i don't know if you live in an apartment or a sprawling area so this is hard to say for you. Cheap things that we do are: Nature walks, scavenger hunt, hide and go seek, etc.
If it was just girls i would suggest a mani-pedi party. Pull out you nail polish and make the girls into princesses!
You could also pool all the money and go bowling or to an amusement park, usually these places will have a party package.
I disagree with the other answerer, i don't think you should ask the party goers to incur any of the costs. I have never heard of this and think it would be in poor taste! [it is nice to have a few parents stay to help oversee though]
good luck and remember, you will stress for nothing..she will have a great time no matter what you do!
Peace

I've heard that some local library’s do birthday parties and that they are fairly cheep. Also if you know any teenagers or adults who want to help out you could have them make balloon animals. All you need to do is buy the long thin balloons and a cheap hand operated balloon air pump. An adult or teen could easily be twisting away in less then ½ hour using instructions from the Internet. But practice first…just in case. I learned to make balloon animals when I was 6, so maybe you could even teach the kids how to do it, though some probably won’t catch on. Face painting is also fun, you can use non toxics washable markers to draw on children’s faces, necks and arms. See if you can recruit older kids, maybe a girl scout troop that can earn badges by working with little kids. They’d probably be happy with all the party food they can eat and a small thank you gift as payment.

You can always find those types of places with the huge inflatable slides etc. They are always a good option.
I must tell ya, I just had a party for my now 8 yr old girl and it went off perfectly. We arranged a "movie" party where we (me, hub, party gal and 7 friends) went and saw a Disney movie just released the day before. The invites said the movie we would go see. The only thing I didn't like about arranging this is movie theaters cannot tell too far in advance exactly when a new movie's show times are, but I set a 3-hour block of time on a saturday matinee (to save lots of money) and told parents when they RSVP to leave a phone number in case the party time changes.
The party time changed slightly and everyone was still okay with going :) Big bonus but no guarantee.... I was able to bring in brown paper lunch sacks for each kid and just bought their bottomless popcorn and refilled the big bucket 3 times to fill up their individual bags and saved bunches on that way too.
Make sure to arrange carpooling (with family or neighbors) if you don't have a big enough car.
P.S... I made homemade popcorn balls and the loot bags looked like old fashioned popcorn bags that I ordered along with invites on the internet so that was also definitely creative and cheap

Some movie theatres have a "party room" where you can book a birthday party. Usually, there is one fee per child that covers the movie ticket and the birthday party popcorn/drink/candy at the concession stand. I think booking the room is a separate cost. You would have to supply the cake and drinks that are served in the party room.
Little kids love movies! You can look online or call your local movie theatre to see if they have a program like this.
If you have a miniature put put golf course in your area, you could give them a call too. They also have party rooms (you'd have to supply the cake and drinks) but, again, I think there is only one fee for put put golf per child.
Chuck-E Cheese is a haven for 6 year olds, and they are excellent with parties!
Good luck on your daughter's party!

McDonalds is the answer! I had 5 kids at my sons bday party and it cost only $55 altogether. You have to book ahead at least 2 weeks in advance. They make the loot bags and hey if there is a play area even better! No bugs or mosquito bites to worry about. All you need to do is bring the cake and ice cream. They give you the birthday childs meal for free. Best of all, no mess for you to clean up in your own home!

A McDonald's with a play area is great for that age group. Kid's don't care about expensive parties, they just want to have fun.
Let them come to your house and do all the messy stuff they aren't allowed to do at home. Sidewalk chalk, running through the sprinklers, decorate their own cupcakes, ect.
A pinata is fun at a home party. That also takes care of the "treat bags".

PRINCESS TEA PARTY!!!! If you have a yard, set up a few tables, and put pretty pink fabric on the all the tables (you can get it cheap at walmart by the yard), put flowers everywhere (again walmart has em really cheap!), go to some yard sales and get as many pretty little china pieces, (it's okay if they're mismatched), order tiaras from orientaltrading.com (super cheap!), make lil finger sandwiches and put drinks or "tea" in their tea-cups, and lil cupcakes (you or granny make em on the cheap), put sprinkles on those...and have all the girls invited wear their most beautiful dress!!! One activity could be to watch Cinderella or gather them around for a princess story or a puppet show!!! Dang, I think I might have this party for myself...!

That's too high a number; limit it to 8 and have it in your home. Just have them play some games, enjoy music, pizza and birthday cake. They'll have a ball playing together! Home parties are the best of all!
