First it must be cleaned thoroughly or any paint will not adhere to it. After cleaning it and letting it dry, choose a good oil base primer. Primer is very important for any paint job. It will save you time and money in the long run. After the primer has dried for at least 12 hours you may paint any colour you want. If the furniture is to be left outdoors I would use an outdoor paint that would be used to paint the house. The sky is the limit with your choices.
