Good point. It was the vote in congress that got the "under God" placed in in 1954. If we want to take it out, we'll have to vote it out.
The original pledge prior to the "under God" version of the pledge is as follows,
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all."
The original intent for inserting the "under God" term into the pledge is to remind Americans that despite our great physical strength we must remain humble. They will help us to keep constantly in our minds and hearts the spiritual and moral principles which alone give dignity to man, and upon which our way of life is founded. -- Eisenhower
However, I don't see how by inserting the "under God" term, people will remain humble or encourage moral principles. In fact by inserting the "under God" term, I believe people will become more arrogant.
So yes, I would vote to return it to its original wording.

I would vote to take it out OR if that isn't acceptable then include the passege "Under Goddes and God" to include every religions' cencept of Deity.
As for those who THINK that the original Pledge of Allegiance HAD "under God" in it have NO knowledge of the History of the Pledge. I refer you to ... http://history.vineyard.net/pledge.htm
for the TRUE story of the Pledge of Allegiance
"Those who don't KNOW history are doomed to repeat it."

Heavens no! If we remove ourselves from under God's covering as a nation I believe we will cross a line of no return spiritually.
Just found this "In 1954, Congress after a campaign by the Knights of Columbus, added the words, 'under God,' to the Pledge. The Pledge was now both a patriotic oath and a public prayer." So for all you Catholics out there don't be such wussys and stand up for God!
FYI when a group writes or commissions a mission statement, pledge etc, it is not a work of one author typically it is something agreed upon by the members of the group.

Yes. As an author, the idea that congress could change my words bothers me.
I feel very sorry for those who think that Under God was there originally. I assume they've been lied to, and suggest they pick up any encyclopedia.

Without God ,the U.S is doomed to a third world existence and we will be under another god eventually .Either the Chinese Communist God or El Allah the Moon God.
I realize God was not in the original version but he should stay there.
There is a reason that the U.S,Britain and Israel are hooked up together. And why Europe stays in the background.

Since you asked, as an agnostic bordering on atheist, I would remove the words "under God" from the pledge. I think one of the basic strengths of our melting-pot society is our acceptance of those who may not believe as we do. Given this, I resist those who attempt to impose their system of beliefs on me, but not to the extent of taking my protest to the streets (yet).

Look around ,every where God has been taken from has gone to pot.
You can take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance. At the rate you NON-BELIEVERS work ,America is on a fast track to hell.
Look at the schools ,thank you for removing the blessings of God.Now every school is an open war field .Good job.
I pray God will open your very blind eyes to see the truth.<><
