When you become a "child of God" through faith in Jesus Christ, God becomes your Father. In the Bible a Father has three God given responsibilities. They are to protect his family, to lead his family and to provide for his family. So when you become a child of God He assumes those responsibilities over you and thus produces a "hedge" around as long as you are obedient to Him.. God will drop those responsibilities like any father would if you willfully reject His teaching. A Father who constantly warns his child against danger will sometimes let his children go their own way because they won't listen, so that the child will learn that there are consequences to breaking rules. I 2 Cor 6 God says this to His children: 17 "Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE," says the Lord. "AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN; And I will welcome you. 18 "And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me," Says the Lord Almighty.

It is a source of protection. Spiritual hedge. Job 1:10
Job shunned sin. Satan said Job fear God because of his possessions. And that was the reason God protected him. That was not true. Job believed and was obedient to God and God loved him. Job said though he slay me yet will I serve him. Job knew where his love and blessings came from. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away blessed be the name of the Lord. We are still tried on every hand, but Satan is hindered,God allows so much.

Hedges are angels encamped around God's people. They are powered by our prayers and protect us from the devil and demons.
Job 1 and 2 are excellent examples. If you will notice God challenges satan over Job's faith. God let the hedge down for satan to enter. I do not know of any better examples.

We live in the world and we are all tested by the world. Some of us come put hard and bitter and some of us learn to love and be kind.
Some of God's laws protect us. Such as premartial sex.
AIDS, VD, unwanted babies and going into a marriage before your really ready for marriage.
Lies, protects us from getting into a lot of trouble.
Stealing keeps us out of jail or maybe from getting shot.
The cage that keeps the canary in also keeps the cat out.

God can send angels to protect us when in danger or under attack. When we get to Heaven, we will be surprised to hear about all the times God protected us and we were unaware.
