I've had a subscription for guitar world for a year; it was alright, not great, but it was slightly too advanced, so I might subscribe to something else. I was just wondering what the differences, pros, and cons of guitar world vs. guitar one vs. revolver vs. any other guitar magazines are.

You might check out Guitar Edge, it's a new magazine that has only been around for a year or so. It comes out once every two months and features mostly tab (about 15 songs per issue), and not a lot of articles and lessons.

I started with Guitar World, too, and it was a little too advanced for me then, too. I kept the subscription though, and maybe you should, too. As you progress and keep learning, you won't find it so advanced, and you will need something challenging to work up to. If you practice your chords and scales every day, you will start to recognize them as patterns in the song, and suddenly you don't have to read or memorize the song note-for-note anymore because you realize that it's a chord progression in C, or that the whole solo is just in A-minor pentatonic. It takes a while to get to that point, but it's a great day when you realize you can do it.

The editor of Guitar World has decided to cancel the production of Guitar One and Guitar World Acoustic, so definitely don't pick those. But, in their place, he added the more popular columns from each of those to Guitar world, making it a super-magazine. I personally have subscribed to guitar world for several years and I have enjoyed every issue. They now all come with dvd-roms that have lessons for every style you can think of, as well as hints for playing and getting into the biz from people like Joe Satriani, John 5, Jeff Beck, Yngvie Malmsteen, and many other big names. I love it, and you will too!!!!

I had subscribed to "Guitar Player" for several years and inside its practical applications were great exercises that helped increase my fret board knowledge.

But, alas, the magazine went the way of "Guitar World" and "Guitar One" with all the nasty looking tattooed, bare-chested, earring wearing, and tongue dragging wierdos that, to me, I found repulsive.

"Acoustic Guitar" magazine is a more decent one to have in a decent home. The guitar magazines, except for "Acoustic Guitar," have gone the route of television's wrestling rings with all the wild looking characters and their sex chicks.

Color me old fashioned, but when I buy a guitar magazine I want to look at guitars and not scummy players.

I second GP56's answer, above. Also, you might want to look at Play Guitar! Magazine-published by the same people who put out Acoustic Guitar-good for beginners and 'developing' players-Good Luck!
