Learn a lot about kids. See if your town has babysitting classes you could take, they teach about health and safety. Start out by babysitting somebody you are familiar with.

Well, in most states there is no law saying an age but it is up to the parents (both of the babysitter and of the children getting babysat for). Ask your parents if it is ok if you make some flyers and hand them out to neighbors. Don't forget to add a number for them to contact you on. If they say no offer to start with mothers/fathers helper which is when you watch the children while the parents are at home but just busy. If they still say no accept it and show your responsiblity by keeping your room clean, vacuming, watching siblings, and keeping up the grades. Good luck!

Study up online. Convince the parents that you know how to be responsible. I never took a babysitting course and I would never have thought to ask a babysitter if they had taken a course when my kids were little. Volunteer at a day care for a bit. That would help convince the parents that you are capable and that they can trust you.

I would start with taking a class on babysitting and childcare... Our neighbor took the class and she's 12. They are usually a couple days and they teach first-aid/safety and sometimes CPR.. That would help set you apart from the crowd. I would make fliers and talk to parents at Library, Gymboree those types of places.. .Also Craigslist has an area you can post for babysitting... good luck

My first sitter was 13 when she started with our daughter, who was 2 at the time. Her parents were friends of ours.
First, we brought our daughter to their house, where her mom helped her out. Then she and her mom stayed at our house and her mom first helped, then sat back and watched. Then, when she felt comfortable, we had her start sitting for a short time during the day.
Within a year, she was sitting for our then 3 yr old daughter and our baby son from 7 - midnight.
We always had our cell phone, and we didn't go far. Only once did she ever have a rough night and need us to come home early.
Now, we've moved away and we are a referance for her.
She's great.

Start checking with friends of the family and neighbors to see if you can watch their kids for short periods of time or be a mommy's helper when mom is home but needs to get stuff done. You can put a flyer up in local stores, gas stations, churches, etc. to advertise. Once you prove how good you are, people will spread the word.

Hey there. I have a 13 year old daughter and a 13 year old niece that both are babysitters! The one thing that you can do is, make flyer's. Making flyer's helps with almost everything. Give them to your neighbors. Make sure that you hand give them the them. And make sure that you are not shy and you ask my I talk to your daughter or son! And then make sure you tell them about yourself and why you want to be a babysitter. It worked for my kids, it should work for you!

I babysitted at 13. Begin by keeping someone close to you. It shows others that you are trustworthy and can do the job. Then, start with your church or mom's friends.
