I'm very artistically inclined. I'm into modern art. I don't really like family-oriented things (like soccer games and bake sales and stuff)...I'm 21, a girl, I just want to start doing some cool stuff. Maybe join a sports team or something. No more bars and clubs- I want to do something meaningful-ESP>>>> like art stuff....can you help me out? I live in o.c.

Check with your local community center.
Usually there's always something to do

How about becoming a docent at an art museum - you can learn a lot about artists' work, art history, art curating. AND you work on your communication/presentation skills at the same time.

If o.c. is too small for an art museum (where the heck is that?), or you have to travel too far, you could inquire at the art department at a local community college. They could point you in the direction of galleries, and other volunteer opportunities that you might like (perhaps working with kids and art?)

Something else I just thought of was community theater - they are usually begging for folks with artistic skill to come draw & paint backdrops for stage productions. It's so much fun to be involved in a show!

Volunteer. That's the best way to get involved with your local community. You can make the most impact in your community doing things that you like to do. Your volunteer center can help you find specific community projects and non-profit agencies in your local area to help you make an impact in your community.

Here are some links to help you get started:

There's a variety of things you can do. Your volunteer center can help you find projects related to arts and culture, mentoring, environment, and other work related to specific issues that you care about. You might even want to serve on a non-profit board of directors. Age isn't always a factor, as they need younger people on many non-profit boards to provide a different perspective to the inner workings of their operations.

Good luck!

Contact City Hall. Find out how you can volunteer to help the city. Maybe use your talents to help beautify some of the not so beautiful buildings in town. Maybe other things too. Most city departments use volunteer help and that help sometimes leads to a full time job you might really like.

This ain't exactly what you're looking for... but maybe it is:

America's Second Harvest would probably love to get some help from someone who is looking for someone to help. They run food banks all across the nation. When you get to this first website, ignore the first web address-- it was too long and got chopped off.

Free lance around the community and put together scenes over a period of time...say a year...present to library...
