The "megapixels" that you refer to describe the camera's resolution. "Mega" is Greek for "million" and "pixel" refers to an individual dot that makes up an image. Hence, a 6 megapixel camera can use up to 6 million dots to make up an image; a 7.2 megapixel camera can use up to 7 million 2 hundred thousand (7,200,000) pixels to make an image.

The more pixels there are in an image, the better the quality of that image. This is particularly important when you are enlarging a photograph; having more pixels means that the image will be less "grainy" or "pixelated" when you enlarge it.

The 7.2 megapixel camera will therefore be a better, albeit more expensive, camera.

There relatively isn't various a difference between 10 and 12 mega pixels. Mega pixels relatively help you make the image greater effective without the image being completely distorted. the two would be wonderful to your purposes.

There's not a WHOLE lot of detectable difference between 6.0 and 7.2 MP. I wonder if there is some other upgrade to the more expensive camera. Is the sensor larger? Does it have a new image processor? Add details and post the specific model numbers and we might have more info for you.

megapixels ae important. But also take a quick look at the sensor size, where bigger is better.

Also, while software is important - my Casio 850 has some cool software. BUT, the opportunity to transfer the raw image to your PC can make a difference. If you can get the raw image to your PC, you can use whatever software you like adjust the image.
