Besides Marthin Luther King, who do you think of when you think of a good public speaker.

And in a couple of words, how would you describe the way they spoke?

You may not agree with what some of these people say, but feel these are the most emotional and persuasive public speakers of the past century. Before this century, it's hard to decide, as there were few or no recordings.
Adolph Hitler

Nelson Mandela

Franklin D. Roosevelt

Douglas Macarthur

Benito Mussolini

Winston Churchill

Che Guevara

Fidel Castro

John F. Kennedy

And the best for last:

George W. Bush

(just kidding)

There's also strong evidence that Jesus of Nazareth, the Christian Messiah, and the Prophet Mohammad of the Islamic Faith were both extremely able public speakers. Among modern religious figures , many people have been moved by Pope John Paul II, Jerry Falwell, and Joel Olstein. Muqtada Al-Sadr in Iraq and Ayatollah Khomeni in Iran have very effectively used public speaking to rally people to their causes.

Legend has that the greatest public speaker of Ancient Rome was Cicero, and his writings certainly show him to be very intelligent. Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus both were very persuasive speakers as well.

In my opinion the best public speaker was President John F. Kennedy. He was passionate, elegant, and detailed. When he spoke, people listened. I have seen film and heard recorded speeches of FDR (President Roosevelt). He was also a magnificent speaker. Quieter than Kennedy, but again eloquent. Both knew how to appeal to our better natures.

Abe Lincoln - thoughtful speaker with articulate pauses.

Montel Williams - soft-spoken, yet strong in his conviction.

Dr. Robert Schuller (of The Crystal Cathedral) - he's a story telling clergy person who can deliver thought-provoking messages without the shouting or the preaching - talking with and to, not 'at'.

The best public speaker is one who convince his thought to the public. He should have such personality that every one can attract towards and want to listen repeatedly.
