i would go with a regular car seat just for the safety factor until about age 5 then switch to a booster seat

You need a convert-able car seat, my sons is in a 3 in one, rear face, forward facing, and then all the extra padding comes out in stages, and the 5 point harness is removed, and it is a booster seat. Used with the shoulder belt. You can find them in a 2 in 1, were you remove the straps, and then use the seat belt. Weight isn't the only thing to look at when going into a booster seat, height is also very important.. There shoulders HAVE to be above the top harness strap. If they are not that tall which is usually 35" or taller, then you have to continue to use the harness straps, not the seat belt. 30 lbs is usually the minium weight, as long as they are tall enough. They can use the straps until 40 lb, until the child is tall enough.

I thought a booster seat was for older children? I would read various websites and the height/age/weight requirements for various carseats... That might help narrow it down a bit... Also, I've seen many video's on YouTube about keeping children in rear facing seats for as long as possible, since facing forward is very hazardous to children... So, I would NOT go with just a booster seat until after 5 I would think.. Check on ParentsCenter.com, AmericanBaby.com and see what other people suggest.. Good luck

You need the one in between a babyseat and a boosterseat, you can buy them at most stores and on the box it will say convertible, it means it will turn into a boosterseat, and it will tell the weight they have to be. The rules are different everywhere, but up where I live in Canada, babies have to be 1 year and 23 lbs or so to move out of the babyseat and in to a regular car seat.
