Well , it is sad to see standards slipping. By the way, your question should have been :Why do people feel the need to answer A question , only to correct spelling ?

If people who asked the questions used the spell checker there would be no need. It's very annoying reading a question which is full of elementary spelling mistakes or misuse of, for example, 'there' and 'their' .
If you are going to write, write properly, especially if it's your first language.
Everyone has the odd typing error occasionally but bad grammar/spelling is inexcusable.

Jinx...it's 'than' not 'then'
Dee..it's "they're" not "there" and "too" not "to"...see what I mean???

Could it be that some of the questions are so banal that the only use they have is as examples of bad spelling?

There are a few spelling mistakes in your question above. I've no doubt you did this on purpose. The reason why I will not correct you, is because I know exactly what you mean and that's good enough for me. As long as the intention is good and the question is genuine, there should be no reason to exploit a persons' mistakes. TANK U 4 DA 2 PINTS!:)

Because slowly but surely, people are dumbing down so much it has become annoying. English isn't a particularly difficult language to spell, you should be proud of being able to speak a language properly and not proud of being able to continually **** it up.

Some people think it's rude to ask questions without spelling properly. If it's a couple or two typos it's acceptable, but when one lazes in typing properly, he/she is considered as not respecting the ones being asked.

Because of language is communication. In most cultures, slang shows ignorance. You can slang a second language or speak it will so people understand you, or you can slang English, so no one from overseas understands a word you say. Why do we have language?? to TRY to communicate accurately.

There are those with neither an original thought in their head, nor the ability to construct a cogent argument. If they wish to massage their fragile egos,Pedantry is their only recourse.
Pity them!

And wonder just how many of them will be seeking a grammatical error in my answer (Oh dear, I started a sentence with a preposition!)

I'd think we're getting tired of seeing bad spelling and punctuation. It shows a lack of attention to detail and a disrespect of one's native language. Besides, you only learn from your mistakes when you're led to see and understand them.
