The deepest secret is that life is not a process of discovery, but a
process of creation. You are not discovering yourself, but creating
yourself anew. Seek, therefore, not to find out who you are, seek to
determine who you want to be.

What a fabulous question.

More than thought provoking. Possibly life changing.

I have always considered life as learning to right the wrongs of my past lives. And learning what I will lose if I don't learn by my mistakes.

To seek and determine who I want to be, would involve a whole different mind set. One that would possibly/probably cause me to hurt or disappoint people I care about. And that is something I could never ever do.

I'll just carry on as I have been. Learning from this life, giving thanks for what I have now, and praying I keep these experiences forever.

It's not that deep a secret!
How can you decide who you want to be without first finding out who you are and where you are at?
Life is a creation as it can change from minute to minute, but it is not a process. Huge changes to our life can happen out of the blue and without us having much if any say in it.
I believe it is important to have goals or desires but no matter how determined we are, we still have to put up with time and chance.

I like that. I think I may even believe it. Where did that come from? Did Kallan say that, or is that just a hug down at the bottom of your question?

Hi Pangel,
Since I need to answer the occasional question just to keep my account open, I'll put in my two penn'orth in on this one.

You're not only creating yourself. The whole universe is pouring into creation, bright and fresh every moment, from the very centre of who you yourself are. The centre of the universe is right in the centre of your own chest.

(And you're right, Y!A is dangerously addictive! So, watch it boys and girls. You're getting hooked!)

I do believe that creation is an ongoing process, spiritually speaking.

I would have to change it to

You are not discovering yourself, but God’s Spirit is constantly creating your spirit anew.

I disagree. Life is not what you make it(another way of saying what's written above) but what you make out of the situations dealt to you. If life was truly creation, we would do better jobs with the lives we have created.

Life is more seeing what we can salvage from it.

Poetical but not logical.

If you do not discover first who you are, how can you know for sure if you are not already what you would like to be?

Note also that striving to become someone else may conduce to dual personality disorder syndromes but in no case you may become that person (you say "who"- you referring to an other person).

To be honest, it sounds like it came either from a Christmas cracker, or from one of the old Kung Fu TV programs.

Contemplating your navel in this way only reveals that you have belly fluff.
