The raised dot on the #5 on any keypad is so you can feel your way around the keypad, without looking, if need be.
On almost all devices with a numeric keypad such as telephones, computers, etc., the 5 key has a raised dot or raised bar to make dialing easier. Persons who are blind or have low vision find it useful to be able to feel the keys of a telephone. All other numbers can be found with their relative position around the 5 button. (On computer keyboards, the 5 key of the numpad has the raised dot or bar, but the 5 key that shifts with % does not).
I don't usually use wikipedia, but it was very accurate on this:

The bump is just to help identify the 5 button without looking at the phone. It comes in handy for blind people. Also lets say you are being kidnapped and need to dial 911 withou taking you phone out of your pocket. The bump helps you find your way around the phone. If you notice a keyboard has a bump on the F and J keys. That helps identify the ends of the "home" row.

It is the home number key. You can tell you are on #5 by feeling for the little bump. My keyboard also has a little bump on the F and on the J. They tell me my index fingers are on the home keys.

For blind people and people who don't watch the keypad while tapping the keys, the dot is a touch feel for the center key.

If you'll notice, you'll have bumps on your 'f' and 'j' keys too... this is to help people find the key by touch and not have to look. It saves time and helps your speed.

Its so that you can tell the center button with just your hands. Like if your driving and you can locate the five button, you know the 1 button is diagonal to it, and six is next to it, ect...
