You can actually have a motion sickness pill perscribed by your vet if you consult with him/her about this. Believe it or not Benedryl also helps with nausea, and can be given to dogs, but it does cause drowsiness as you probably know. Really talk to your vet. Try just consulting over the phone because otherwise your dog is fine and see if they can give you over the counter dosage or prescribe something for her.

It's important to find out what is causing the sickness...is it nervousness over being in a car? Age? Sensitive stomach? There are remedies, but finding the cause is the first step. For a young dog who is excitable (as one other poster said, young dogs are often prone to car sickness but many outgrow it), you could try cutting back on food for up to six hours before a trip. Don't get the dog excited before having to go in the car. If it is fear-based, have him get used to being in the car in small stages...urge him to get in with a favorite treat as enticement, and only leave him in the car for a moment or two. Practice this daily for a while, extending the times he is in the car (keeping in mind the day is not a hot one, where temps in a car rise quickly). Then graduate to having him in the car and drive it around for a few moments....you get the idea. You could also look into getting some Bach's Rescue Remedy for pets and give him a few drops before a trip...it has a calming effect on the animal. If a dog gets motion sickness, dramamine could help (check with your vet for dosage vs body weight).

Have you tried taking her for a ride without feeding her and if so did she still get sick? It could be the food you're feeding her--maybe try something for a sensitive stomach. I think my dog finally outgrew that because he doesn't puke in the car anymore--luckily I had a blanket on the seat that also covered the floor.

Lots of dogs do this at first. Do you keep the windows open? Is the dog lying down or standing? Lying down is better. Try putting the dog in the front passenger seat. Try putting him in a dog cage for a while in case he is nervous, then he will get used to the motion .
Food makes no difference - dogs are not children who just LOVE to throw up in cars the minute they have drunk a bottle of milk - real stinky.

Not enough information to really help you. I need to know the age of the dog and other factors. Such as indications that the dog is getting car sick because it is afraid of the vehicle. Young dogs often vomit in a moving car, they will outgrow this. And a dog in a very stressful and fearful environment will often vomit.

My dog used to do that too and my mom took her to the vet and they perscribed a pill for her. We (I believe) gave the pill to her about 2 hours before we would leave, so the pill can desolve. It did make her a little sleepy but she really didn't get sick. Then after awhile she started getting sick less and less and then she didn't get sick at all. Now she just kinda foams at the mouth but she doesn't get sick at all.
well hope this helps.

There are supplements to calm nerves. Maybe that will help.

Also, Emetrol (found near Pepto Bismo) helps with the vomiting due to stress/nerves. Ask your vet how much to give for the weight of your dog.
