I agree with Moni. As long as the "whippings" aren't excessive then it's for their own good. Children need to be disciplined. I personally don't use a belt, because I didn't like it when it was used on me.
Outsiders are always so quick to call any kind of discipline abuse. Then the same people are the first ones who get upset at out of control children, and THEN BLAME THE PARENTS!!!
IF IT IS EXCESSIVE, then and only then should you interfere.

i dont understand using a belt. for the most parts, adults should be able to hurt the child with their bare hands. so why use a belt? just to make sure it hurts sooooo bad they always think about it? why not slap them in the face then? kids are people too. and they deserve a little dignity.

It's much more worse than the hand alone! With your hand, you can control the amount of force that is given to the bottom. With an object, however, there is no way to even know how hard you are hitting the bottom (unless one tries it on his/herself!)
My BF spanks his 6 y/o son, and I do as well (I have permission, and I tell my BF about it every time I do). However, we do not use anything other than the hand, and no welps or bruises are EVER left (a belt will leave marks!). Spanking scares him much more than it actually hurts him (I've experiemented - If I barely tap his bottom, he screams bloody murder even though he barely even felt it).
No child should be whipped with a belt, and definately not children as young as that! Kids are going to make mistakes, and beating children teaches them nothing.
For those who DO spank with a belt, get someone to whip you with it to see how it feels!

I have a 7 year old daughter, whom I have never used a belt (or any other object) to get my point across. In my opinion belting is more than a bit excessive. Ask yourself, what is the child learning from this? Anything? In most cases, parents who 'discipline' their children in this fashion, are just doing it to make themselves feel better. To work out THEIR anger and frustration.

All i kn ow is that I was whipped with a belt when i was little and basically it stayed with me ever since. They called it a punishment but to me it was abuse. It felt as if The hated me and i was bad. Also, i think it is illagle now. back then it wasent but i think it is now.
And yes, in a way it is abuse. a horrible abuse at that.

Depending where you are it may be illegal.
In Canada ( criminal law section 43 look it up on the web ) you cannot spank a child with any object. You can use your hand from the age of 2 years to 12 years and that is dicey. There are better options available for punishments. I would class this as abuse and call child protection services ( CPS ) for these children's sake.

The only acceptable use for a belt on a child, is to hold up his or her pants. This person is a child abuser. There is no reliable way to regulate the force of a strike using a flexible object such as a belt. If your friend won't believe you, I'll bet family and childrens services has a convincing argument that they will listen to.

Did you know it is a crime to know about this and not report it to the police? It is definitely not legal to beat a child with a belt. I hope you do the right thing and report them. I believe in minding my own business, but when it comes to child abuse I draw the line. Someone has to stick up for these kids, they can't do it themselves and how many children are even killed by their parents who lose their tempers. Make that call you will feel better.

I was "whooped" with a belt from time to time. I was not abused.
If it resembles more a bar-room brawl than a spanking it may be excessive - Then it is something to take to the authorities.
Otherwise, butt out.
