Does telling them that there is eternal punishment for not cleaning their rooms any more conducive to developing a good moral foundation than giving them a week off the playstation?

Well, I think telling children that they are born as filthy rags who need a bloody human virgin sacrifice for sin to cleanse them, and that they are going to spend eternity in a burning torture of hell otherwise, is sickening, disgusting child abuse right there.

So, yeah. I'd agree that telling a child there is eternal punishment for not cleaning their room is right along those same lines.

Give em a week off the playstation. They won't get their little minds warped and traumatized by that.

This behavior may conduce them to be blindly obedient to your commands but not for moral foundation.
Now this is also for the kid's best while he is with you but have in mind that soon you will no longer be he's boss. Then he will be helpless against harmful characters.

You should not preach eternal punishment just so your kid may do whatever you want to. You should do it so that he may know the truth: that there is death and life in this world. And that once you endure life, death is inextricably. But before he come to life someone else came to life and inextricably found temporally death for all mankind so that whoever believe in Him may not parish in eternal death but rise again for an eternal life.

You may disagree but you may not find a batter way (Bible, John 14:6).

A belt (punishment for not cleaning room...oops not PC).
How many parents today threaten JR and JRette 986 times to turn off the PlayStation if they don't clean their room.Jr and Jrette continue playing, almost not stop, till 2am (bedroom still filthy and they decide they are ready to go to bed)?
The PC nonsense hasn't made kids more moral (I was disciplined as a kid.the discipline didn't distroy my life.I've never been to prison, never cursed my parents to there face (I have seen younguns that cursed their parents and refused to do anything they said.
God won't tolerate sin in heaven.
God wants all men to ask for forgiveness and accept Jesus' payment for their sin.

The PC crowd wants to have their sin with no punishment.

A child can rarely grasp the concept of hell or heaven.

And not doing their daily duties isnt a good enough reason to say that to a child.

The poor thing will probably either ignore the parent or think this god person is some sort of a monster.

Id personally not even mention consequence or punishment from God to point out the 'evil' deeds of my child.

I will do it to point out the 'evil' in bigger things tho.

Like what happens when someone hurts another person etc.

My own mother said two things to me: we have a creator, He will be angry and punish us if were not good to other people.

HEH! it worked ^^

Hello Sho-Nuff.. :)

Why is teaching a child manners, chores and being helpful to others..any different than how others teach their children..

If we do not teach our children it is wrong to steal and that there are consequences to doing so, then they probably will and think they can get away with it.. :(

As for telling our children about God and His Laws and there may be punishment for disobeying those Laws..

How is it any different than disobeying the Laws of the Land that we all follow now..

If someone commits a crime, they must do the time.. :(

I say this in Love.. :)

I can't imagine a parent doing that..
telling your children that you are sinful..
they are kids who are learning..
well, if their matured enough..maybe..
you can't say punishment really..
if you are disobeying what your parents tell you to do, that's wrong..
you should say that " children, you should respect your elders."
if their way off the road, then maybe you can ground them or ban them from tv or something..

if their small kids, 1-7 year olds, you are not a good mother/father..
scolding them is like scolding a stick, they don't understand things properly yet..

I think all depends on a child's intelligence...., some 12 yr old are very mature and understands then you can tell them about the way of life. However, all children, especially the babies will go straight back to heaven where they came from, so no need to worry about them, worry about the grown ups.

That depends on your believes. Me and my family don't believe in the concept of sins. The sins are based on the fear to a punishment. The rule is simple treat the persons in the same way that you want to be treated. That's all.

Incredible, people gave 2 thumbs down for a simple answer recommending an open mind. Wow, that is scary.

Children are susceptible to deception. You can tell a child anything and they'll believe you. So, yes I think threatening a child with torture by burning alive and scaring the living day lights out them is unethical. It falls under the category of psychological abuse.
