I'm 49 and once had the same problem. Three sets of quarter situps every day did away with my pot. I also do bench press', curls, butterfl;ys, and leg extensions on a pyramid sort of routine; start out with a light weight and many reps, go up with the weight and down with the reps until you reach your max weight, then go down with the weight and up with the reps until you reach what you started with. Good luck.

Go on a moderate low calorie diet, exercise with weights, do aerobics and start some core exercises. See my reference to about.com article below.
You are older like me- I am 51. It will take time to get rid of the pot belly so be patient.

since we cant spot reduce body fat it just has to be overall fat loss
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Well, of course, get some exercise. You should also check the ingredients of the foods your eating, 1 thing to avoid is
Hydrogenated oils. But the best thing you can do is get lots of exercise. Bike riding, walks....exc.

get a physical to determine if you are diabetic or have pre-diabetes and ask the Doctor to recommend a nutritionist and the nutritionist can help you according to your body type, age and activity level.
