This pup probably barely has teeth right now. You can try to make a slurry of mushy ground up puppy food, make this so he could try to lap it up. I don't think he is quite old enough to lap up yet, but you can give it a try. Keep up the the milk replacer with him, offer him some slurry every day and watch to see if he gets the hang of it.

At 3 week old they are still too young for puppy food. You will have to bottle feed him every 3 hours until he is 4 weeks old. At 4 weeks old you can get a very good puppy food and put it in a blender and chop it up and add either puppy milk replacer or warm water to make a runny oatmeal mush for the pup. Put it in a shallow pan and allow the pup to lap it up. You can feed him 4 times a day with this and offer water too at each meal. You can feed him this until hes 5 weeks old then just soak the puppy food in warm water and break it up with a fork and feed him 4 times a day always have water in a shallow bowl for him OK. From this point on until 9 weeks old just wet the puppy food and feed the pup 3 times a day again always have water for the pup.
Be very cautious of people here saying their a vet. I do know of some real vets who do come on here to give advice and it is professional advice. I see NO professional advice on this question that a vet would make.

he should be on just the replacement milk for 1 more week then you can start to wean him.
The way I do it is at the beginning the night before make sure he gets plenty of the formula ( a real good feeding) about 11 pm then let him go the night without feeding.
In the morning give him a good Quality puppy food ( I use Purina one puppy) moistened to a soup like consistency.
( you can either moisten with water or formula.)
Give it to the pup before the milk you may need to stick his nose in it or you may need to get a little on your finger and put in his mouth so he can get a taste of it. leave it down for about 5 minutes then let him have a bottle for fluids and to fill any emptiness in his tummy.
Do this at every feeding.
at 5 weeks make it thicker.
at 6 weeks make it thicker and start leaving a little dry food so he can pick at it through the day. At this time also start leaving water down and you should be able to stop the formula.
Good Luck
also at 6-7 weeks is when he should start his shots.

I got my puppy at 3 weeks too for the same reason. We bought a two cans of puppy formula at the pet store and followed the directions on the label. By the time she finished about a can and a half of the formula, I started crushing puppy food and mixing it with the formula. Once she ran out of formula, we gave her crushed up kibble with water and then eventually got her to eat the puppy kibble. Good luck with your new puppy.
BTW, they are so cute when they drink their milk because they get a little puppy milk moustache :)

If the puppy has teeth, he can probably begin to handle some soft puppy food. Otherwise, stick to the milk until he does. The teeth are the signal to the mama that it is time to wean (it hurts!) Good luck.

Call a vet and I would say it needs some type of vitamin plus milk...puppy food should be moist or moist chunks because of the age and digestive tract...how sweet...he needs a bottle because of the sucking reflex...if you dont bottle feed there is a possiblility of it looking to suck reflex later on...
We have had two small dogs like that...

it's ok to feed it b*tches milk and maybe canned meat or canned dog food as long as its still getting the milk then after it gets 6 to 9 wks old dry dog food works best for everything digestion healthy teeth and gums.
