Does anyone have advice or experience on student loan companies...and why would you suggest that one?

Ask your school for a reputable company. Sallie Mae seems to be the one that dominates when it comes to student loan. Don't go with company that you don't recognize. Ask your financial aid department in your school and they'll refer you to the one that can be trusted.

When you apply for student loan, it always goes through your school first. If anything is wrong on your application, they will notify you. The money will go direct to your tuition, not to your pocket. That way you know that your tuition will be paid. Don't ask too much. Just ask enough for your tuition and books if necessary. I've seen lots of students use the money not just for books but candies, clothes, and other things not knowing in 10 years paying back, that candy bar that they bought probably costs them $10 because of the interest they pay.

Ask if you're qualified for a subsidized loan. You'll pay lower interest.

My student loan is only 2.87% while my co-workers pay between 8-9% interest.

Are you talking private loans?

When you fill out the FAFSA, you usually don't have too much choice. They will offer you a student loan, or not. And you either accept it or decline it.

If you are trying to get one on your own, that is another story.

I would suggest not getting a loan unless you have a really good job after college that is definitely waiting for you. Otherwise, they will harass you to death and threaten to garnish your wages and you will be paying on it for over 10 years.

Try a scholarship instead.

They are absolutely AMAZING, I suggest all kids get as much as possible. I had Sallie Mae, over a 100k. Took me 3 years to pay off, they are amazing as well. Good luck kids!
