Spacers hurt I'm afraid! Sorry. The good news I can offer you is that they only hurt for about a week (and you probably won't have them much longer than that anyways!). Stick it out, you can do it.
Once the spacers come out and your bands go on, the pain drops a lot. You get to experience the worst of it first :)
Oh, and I used Advil to reduce the pain of spacers. It helps a lot!

I got spacers yesterday and they really hurt. I have to were them for a week :( but the dentist did say the pain should go away in about 3 days when the teeth move so the bands won't be so tight on my teeth. I just take pain killer medication and it helps a lot but when the mets run out I feel like I want to just pull the bands off (not a good idea and probably wont do it but yea) also eating softer food like soups and soft fruits don't cause so much pain.

yes you will have pain for several days as there is pressure on your teeth and gums in order for the spacers to correct the position of your teeth. A course of mild painkillers will help if your with discomfort is really bad. Eating soft food is also a good idea for the next few days as biting on something too hard will obviously cause more discomfort. Within a few days you'll be feeling much better. Can give you this advice as my Grandson recently had retainers fitted and he was having problems with pain. He was just living off soup for a few days, but being a Grandma I made him up some soft foods like spaghetti bolognaise and some stew with nicely softened meat and mashed potato and slightly overcooked veg to soften the effect. Toast etc is not a good idea, but small bite sizes of soft bread is another good idea. - but as I have mentioned this should only last a few days. Give it a week or so and you will feel fine. Good luck.

I have spacers also, not fun! I would recommend taking tylenol like some other people said and maybe just eat a bit softer foods. And my orthodontist said NOT to floss the teeth with the spacers. Maybe also brush your teeth a bit more gentle?

Ouch! I had braces for 7 years, so I know your pain. Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot you can do. Eat soft foods, try not to clinch your teeth, GARGLE WITH HOT SALT WATER!!! and pick up some Anbesol at the drug store. The pain will go away in a couple days. Unfortunately, when you get your braces put on, it's a whole different story. Good luck!

Ice them, numbs your gums pretty good, I do it when I try and get my baby tooth out. Ice it for 20 -30 mins and dont take it off. You will need to hold it with a tea towel or face washer.
Theres also something called Bonjela from the chemist, for like tooth aches and stuff. And Pain killers. Good Luck, hope the pain stops. :)
