Because you burn calories all the time i wondered how much.

body needs 50cal/hour just for basic functioning ( like when you are in coma) and that's for a person under 150lbs. a person over 150lbs needs 70cal/hour. so that's the minimum your body is using.

calculate your BMR and divide that by 24 that's basically how many calories you burn an hour at complete rest.
