Jehovah's Witnesses believe Jesus was not God, but an angel.
True Christians believe Jesus was God.
Jesus is Almighty God manifest in the flesh.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. John 1:1-3
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. Colossians 1:15-17
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
God was manifested in the flesh,
Justified in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Preached among the Gentiles,
Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory. 1 Timothy 3:16
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. Philippians 2:5-7

Mormons believe they can become a god like Jesus.
“ Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: ‘ I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God. (Isaiah 44:6)
Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one. (Isaiah 44:8)
Aslo see Isaiah 45:5; 45:14; 45:21; 45:22; 46:5; 46:9; 43:10 all of these verses say there is only one God
Yet part of the mormon doctrine of God is the belief that every male mormon can become a god himself? joseph smith said, " You have got to learn to become gods yourselves the same as all gods before you." Brigham Young said, " The Lord created you and me for the purpose of becoming gods like himself. We are created to become gods like unto out father in heaven.

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses use this verse to think Jesus is not God?
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. (Colossians 1:15) If you stop here and listen to what you are told this means you could fall trap to this think of jesus is not God. if you keep reading what the bible says after this verse you will not think you will know Jesus is God.

Here is the big verse you are missing to Think Jesus was Born and not God: And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. Colossians 1:18 This verse tells us that Jesus was firstborn from the dead and Jesus is the beginning.

Many will use the term "Christian", however Jesus Christ-the LORD said that a person must be Born Again {Jn. 3:3-5; Prov. 28:13-Repent(forsake our sins) Jn. 1:12; Rom. 10:9-10).
Both - the LDS Church and the J.W. Church
add and take away from the Holy WORD of GOD/the Bible. And it says Rev. of the Bible NOT to do take away or add to God's HOLY WORD or else He shall take your name out of the Lamb's Book of Eternal Life. Mormonism has added 3 additional books: Book of Mormon, Pearl of great price, and Doctrines and Covenents. J.W. has an entirely different Bible than Born Again Christians: the New World Translation of the Bible - which was originally put out through a spirit medium. Go to these sites:
http://www.bible.ca/trinity/trinity-Greber.htm
http://www.bible.ca/trinity/trinity-translations.htm
http://www.geocities.com/greber99/
*Both are religions of works, and yes they are cults according to the Holy WORD of GOD because they deny the Godhead - the Father, the Son/the WORD, and the Holy Spirit exist eternally in three persons. Mormonism teaches these are three gods and J.W.'s teach that Jesus was not the
Son/the Word in heaven before becoming flesh on earth but was the ArchAngel
Michael. *They also deny that the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross paid for remission of sins {they say when Jesus shed His blood in the Garden - this brought remission of sins) and His Resurrection for the ENTIRE Salvation of Mankind. *Mormonism teaches: It is not after they have done all ourselves{the good works of mormonism), then the Sacrifice of Christ is added on for their salvation! **We can not help GOD to save us. "Salvation is by GRACE through faith alone. It is a Gift of GOD. We can not ever boast of having helped GOD toward our salvation." {Eph 2:8-9) - for any of our personal goods works are simply filthy rags to GOD. *God made Jesus who knew NO sin to be made sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of GOD in Christ {2 Cor. 5:21). It is an exchange: we give GOD our sins and He imparts to us the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
The fear of the LORD is what enables Born Again believers to choose to believe and by God's Grace through faith- act upon the Holy WORD of GOD/the Bible. We dare not add to or take away from God's Holy WORD !
*We {Born Again Believers) who are serving Jesus Christ AND the WORD of GOD as LORD should never be ashamed of the Gospel of Salvation. *"The Gospel of Salvation is the 'entire' WORD of GOD!"
*"Jesus-the WORD 'is' LORD and GOD!"
p.s. - I'll probably receive many thumbs down by those who believe that the J.W. religion AND Mormonism is not a Cult. But these two religions are Cults - they are Based on Good-Works and one has adopted a New Testament from an evil spirit working through a medium{go to the sites above) and the other cult has added three books to be used with the Bible - which were given by a False Prophet {and the Word of God clearly shows that Jesus was the Last Prophet).
Jesus Christ is the prophet of Deut. 18:18 and is the Last final prophet - who is the Messiah = Yeshua Jesus the LORD.
*"It is God's {Yahwah's/Jehovah's) Will that 'no one' should follow these two Cults -
for they will bring one straight into the Lake of Fire for ALL Eternity."*
Jesus Himself said: "You MUST be Born Again {Jn. 3:3-5; see Prov 28:13; Jn. 1:12;
Rom. 10:9-10). *Jesus did NOT say: "You must be jehovah witness!" And Jesus did NOT say: "You must be Mormon!"
*Jesus-who is the WAY, the TRUTH & the
LIFE- said: "You MUST be Born Again - in order to see and enter the Kingdom of God"
*"The Free Gift of Eternal Life is in and thorugh the LORD Jesus Christ ALONE !"

Any religion that believes that they are the chosen few is a cult.
Religion is mainly a selection of books (their bibles) which set out how a person should live their life - written during those times when most people could not read and were reltaively ignorant. These books have basic rules of behaviour and the true religious person accepts these rules.
A few religions have sects who go over-board - some turn to terrorism, suicide, and some are crazy enough to believe they are the Chosen Ones and will become gods themselves. The idea of anyone becoming a God surely should have gone out of fashion after the Greeks made twits of themselves, but obviously not.
Since all the books express the human fault of sin, therefore there cannot be any religion which is the chosen religion. All men are equal solely because there are sinners amongst us all. It is individually up to each and every person how they choose to lead their lives and any who believe they are better than anyone else really should go and see a shrink.
The Mormons belief that they will becomes gods is pathetic. The Jehovah's Witnesses do a lot of good work but once again discriminate which makes them a cult albeit a harmless cult. Having once been a Jehovah's Witness I definitely believe in their belief that we should not `eat` blood (transfusions) as so much blood is tainted with disease, but I do not aprove of their attitude towards outsiders.
The major religions of the world do not discriminate against those who are not of their religion because they are taught to respect others. Those that do not have not understood what their God has had written for them to read. The whole point of religion is to teach us how to live life happily and peacefully but unfortunately human weakness prevents this.
Human weakness is in many forms - from the ignorance of the poor right through to the need for power in the presidents and statesmen.

True Christians believe that Jesus Christ is their personal Savior. This is something Jehovha's Witness and Mormons have in common with the rest of the Christian world. Study Christianity before you start talking about what you don't know. As for your statement about cults. ALL religions are cults. Learn how to read and use a dictionary. But since you don't know how yet, here is the definition of a cult: 1: formal religious veneration : worship 2: a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents 3: a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator 4 a: great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b: the object of such devotion c: a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion I may be LDS now, but have studies ALL Christian and many non-Christian faiths prior to determining that LDS is the only one that makes complete sense and does not contradict the church down the street with the same name as almost all other "Christian" faiths do.

The LDS believe that God was once a man and progressed to Godhood. That doesn't seem so impossible if you compare say, a cave man and his knowledge and abilities, to a modern man who can fly to the moon or talk to someone in real time on the other side of the earth. Man has greatly progressed beyond anything the cave men could have imagined. Is there a limit to progression?
Also, in the Bible, Jesus said that anyone who believed in him would have all that he and his Father had. We would be joint heirs with Christ. Would that not raise us to the level of gods?
Would you rather sit in heaven and strum a harp forever, or do you think, just perhaps, God will allow you to continue to learn and grow and perfect yourself until you can create your own worlds and watch over them? It's not so far-fetched if you think about it. Do you have a better alternative?
The LDS Church is not a cult. That's just a word used to stir up opinion against them. Its members believe in God and in Jesus Christ, and honor and worship them. Any body of orgnaized people who follow a certain belief can be labeled a cult, so that would include the Catholic Church, Democrats, the NRA and zillions of other groups.

Could you possible twist the Mormon teachings any more than that? LOL! Sheesh! Let me begin by saying that I was raised Mormon...but no longer attend church and don't believe in everything they teach. But never in my life have I heard that Mormons believe they can become God. Mormons worship God (Heavenly Father), his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. They believe in the sacrifice that was made for humanity. They also believe that if they follow the Book of Mormon along with the Bible, then they will be able to live in the Celestial Kingdom along with God and Jesus...not as a God. Get your facts straight, please. Mormons are Christians...and they have their unique ways of worshiping...Just as Pentecostals believe that the women must wear skirts, long hair, and makeup to get to Heaven. Sheesh...this is America...freedom of religion. As long as you worship Christ...you are CHRISTIAN

1 Tim. 3:16-Indeed, the sacred secret of this godly devotion is admittedly great: He was made manifest in the flesh, was declared righteous in the spirit, appeared to angels, was preached about among nations, was believed upon in the world, was received up in glory.
this is talking about Christ Jesus
Philippians 2:5-7-Keep the mental attitude in you that was also in Christ Jesus, who although he was existing in God's form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God. No, but he emptied himself and took a slaves form and came to be in the likeness of men.
Colossians 1:14 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
these two scriptures only say he resembled his father.....but was his fathers firstborn son.
His father loved him and gave him things to do...hey son, lets make the earth...here's the stuff ..show me what you can do..ok pop you'll be proud of me...now son, do you think we ought to make animals, people? ok yes dad I'll make those for you too....anything else dad?
a little later the people go bad, so he says son, something needs to be done. I can't go but would you go down there and straighten it out for me..sure thing pop...I'll do my best...and while he was down here he talked to and prayed to his father. and he died and was resurrected back to his father.
Jesus will ride the white horse at Armageddon...the war horse..he and myriads of angels will war with Satan and his angels..and Jesus will win.
Jesus is the first thing God made with his own power...after that Jesus who was called Michael the Archangel in heaven made the rest.
Jesus is above everyone but he still comforts us saying he is our brother, our fellow worker in the truth. Jehovah is our father.

You say:
"True Christians believe Jesus was God."
Then you go on to quote scripture that says the opposite.
What's with that?
"The firstborn of all creation."
God was not born ...He is eternal.
BTW John 1:1 reads a tad differently than your quote.
"The Word was a god."
